SIERRA VISTA A pursuit of a vehicle suspected to be loaded with illegal immigrants was called off after speeds reached upwards of 100 mph on Highway 90, police said.
Officers responding to a report of a load vehicle spotted the Chevrolet Impala as it traveled south near the Sierra Vista Municipal Airport around 2:23 p.m. Thursday, said Tracy Grady, public information officer for the Sierra Vista Police Department.
As many as seven people were inside the car during the pursuit, which was called off for safety reasons, Grady said.
Officers continued to follow the vehicle, however, and it was eventually found abandoned in the 800 block of Yaqui Street.
One person was arrested and turned over to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, she said.
Pursuits would end abruptly if Air National Guard was allowed to be the one to end them. :) An Apache and a well placed missile can do wonders.
What ever happened to those EMP pulse devices the police ‘supposed’ to have had?
Got me wondering the same thing.
This government does not want to stop illegals. I look for more of these story’s happening. Now that they know we will not chase them.
Doesn’t this story say it all.
Or those gadgets with the "Motorola" logos, for that matter...
Paging Janet Napolitano
It’s all quiet down here on the border. :-)
I didn't know they were hiring.
HAD TO BE THE SS:
If they can shoot the engine in a boat and stop it, why can’t they shoot the engine in a car and stop it? The coast guard does (or at least did) this to stop drug boats.
“What ever happened to those EMP pulse devices the police supposed to have had?”
Probably violates some UN treaty if used against illegals...
Law enforcement needs to get with the program. Both Spider-man and Batman would have just tagged it with a tracking beacon, and they had that tech back in the 60’s. What gives?
With 7 people in the vehicle, it’s probably using a lot of gas.
They should have continued the chase.
No body bags required, pick up DNA test samples with an eye dropper.
Well they got 1 out of 7. Probably better than their normal average.
This will just encourage more runners.
Their are no collateral damage structures at sea.
This happened inside city limits...
Too bad they couldn’t have a helicopter keep the vehicle in view until it came to a stop or ran out of gas. I agree that the government doesn’t seem to want to discourage illegal immigration any more than they’re forced to. My guess it’s due to high level corruption.
You've got to admit they're great little car poolers!
I have watched a lot of these chases on TV with the announcer saying how crazy the guy is for running and running stop lights and endangering others on the road, and yet the cop is doing the same thing as he chases the offender.
Oh but the cop is trained so that makes it ok.
lover your name
That was great! thanks
It's much more an army base than a municipal airport with the 12,000 ft by 150ft wide runway being used for Predator drones.
He was the luckiest one. Now, he will get an apartment, food stamps, medical care, tuition, a drivers license, a car, a cellphone, welfare check, a path to citizenship, and more.
All courtesy of Aunti Napolitano and her unspoken goal of getting as many illegals in the country as she possibly can before she gets the boot in 2012.
Its the ones who escaped who are going to get screwed.
Why waste an expensive missile on them? Other alternatives that are cheaper.
What the hell, someone ahead couldn’t put spike strips down?
Or someone behind couldn’t blow out the tires with a shotgun blast?
Whyare we letting lawless people endanger officers’ and others’ safety? If we start cracking down hard it will reduce it from occurring because they won’t wnat to possibly die just to be here.
Lawsuit fears from the lawless?
You would have to write the Environmental Impact Statement..
I would give everything in my entire life to see every single illegal and their anchor babies deported. Americans will take the jobs, the Democrats just lie on that issue.
I would like a fence across the border with more electricity that would kill someone if they so much touched it with a pinky.
Then fill the Rio Grande with Alligators, Piranhas and Electric Eels.
Then again, dreams never do come true...
Lawsuit fears from the lawless and anyone else who could claim injury or damamges.
