Black And Blue 2: Blacks Flee Blue States in Droves
The American Interest ^ | March 27, 2011 | Walter Russell Mead

Posted on 04/02/2011 12:39:50 PM PDT by neverdem

Two milestones in the long, painful decline of the blue social model were reached this week and reported, of all places, in the pages of the very éminence grise of the monde bleu: the New York Times.

The first was a piece of national and historical news: The Census reported that waves of blue state blacks fled the stagnant job opportunities, high taxes and rotten social conditions of the mostly blue northern states to seek better lives for themselves in the south..

--snip--

Within those states, Chicago and the city of the New York (widely considered among the most successful cities in the country) are the places Blacks are deserting. 17 percent of the Black flight from Big Blue is from the Empire State; after almost a century of trailblazing social policy, New York State has succeeded in creating the most hostile environment for Blacks in the country...

--snip--

When whites leave failing blue cities and states, the pundits call this racism: all those white Californians fleeing Nancy Pelosi’s utopia for less ambitious jurisdictions where ordinary people can do things like get jobs and buy homes are clearly pathetic trailer trash hicks too dumb, too selfish and above all too racist to understand the gloriously multicultural blue beauty of California today.

So what are we going to call the young, educated Blacks making similar choices? Dumb cracker racists?

The failure of blue social policy to create an environment which works for Blacks is the most devastating possible indictment of the 20th century liberal enterprise in the United States. Helping Blacks achieve the kind of equality and opportunity long denied them was more than one of many justifications for blue social policy: it was the defining moral task that has challenged and shaped American liberalism for the last fifty years.

The Republican Party - GOP History

The Republican Party was born in the early 1850's by anti-slavery activists and individuals who believed that government should grant western lands to settlers free of charge. The first informal meeting of the party took place in Ripon, Wisconsin, a small town northwest of Milwaukee. The first official Republican meeting took place on July 6th, 1854 in Jackson, Michigan. The name "Republican" was chosen because it alluded to equality and reminded individuals of Thomas Jefferson's Democratic-Republican Party. At the Jackson convention, the new party adopted a platform and nominated candidates for office in Michigan.

In 1856, the Republicans became a national party when John C. Fremont was nominated for President under the slogan: "Free soil, free labor, free speech, free men, Fremont." Even though they were considered a "third party" because the Democrats and Whigs represented the two-party system at the time, Fremont received 33% of the vote. Four years later, Abraham Lincoln became the first Republican to win the White House.

The Civil War erupted in 1861 and lasted four grueling years. During the war, against the advice of his cabinet, Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation that freed the slaves. The Republicans of their day worked to pass the Thirteenth Amendment, which outlawed slavery, the Fourteenth, which guaranteed equal protection under the laws, and the Fifteenth, which helped secure voting rights for African-Americans.

How could anyone extrapolate this type of drama from data which spans a ten year period?

I'm pretty sure this return to the south was noted before the 2000 Census. This 2010 Census follows the earlier trend.

Of course, my FRiend. I do not see the Dem party being pulled to the right from this.

They will lose voting strength and congressional seats in the north. They will have to go back to their 2006 and 2008 models for winning seats in Congress running moderates and centrists. Did you ever ask yourself why there was no serious gun grabbing, cap & tax or immigration reform laws passed in the last Congress?

Every day we see illegal immigrants coming across our open borders, bringing with them their language and culture. Practically every set of directions includes the Spanish language.

He said he was for very selective legal immigration with brains or the bucks to star a business and against illegal immigration.

“I wonder how many blacks know that the man who freed the slaves was a Republican?”

I’d guess 10%. The history revisionists are already erasing the fact that the slavers were democrats and are now calling the slavers conservatives.

It’s way past time to confront the communist and fascist professors on their home ground. We could start by demanding that legislators clean out these Marxist cesspools. Either they do it or we do it our way.

Never heard of the book.

Can you give me a synopsis? Thanks.

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

None in my experience, I have asked quite a few to name Lincoln’s party and without exception the answer came back that he was a Democrat!

They will flee to more conservative states seeking jobs and lower taxes. Then they will vote in the scumbagged democrat leaders to redistribute the earnings of others.

IMHO, I think that effect is overrated for a number of reasons:

Last November the GOP got 60% of the white vote for the first time in history. I doubt that they will get much less than that in the future. I think the rats may have lost a significant number of the "Jacksonian Democrats" for good.

These educated blacks "acted white" in school. There's much more reason to think they would vote like Thomas Sowell or the late Republican Martin Luther King Jr. than Jesse Jackson Jr.

If they are liberals, they will only have an effect in races that are close statewide races for governor or competitive districts and votes for referenda/initiates. Most Congressional and state legislative districts are gerrymandered, especially "majority" minority districts mandated from D.C. by the Voting Rights Act.

It's kind of lame that it's only 60% nationwide. In some southern states, it's 80%. If we could get 80% nationwide, or even 70%, the Democrats would become perennial also-rans.

…if more of those who are dependent on government handouts and have no desire to take a job if it were offered to them leave the state, the better.

Those are the ones who are staying. The educated, prosperous, hard working blacks who want to earn a better living the ones leaving and coming south to where they can keep more of their hard earned cash, buy a home at an affordable price, and not be forced to join a union......

They’re mostly former government employees taking their fat tax-payer funded pension checks and moving to states with lower taxes and cost of living. They’re not ideological refugees, i.e., they’ll still vote overwhelmingly for Demonrats. They’ll just screw up local voting patterns.

I’m increasingly in favor of internal passports. If one is ideologically diseased, one should be quarantined and forced to stay in the cancerous environment where they are so as not to infect innocents.

Spare us the “public education” rant.

Then I'll take it up. The very idea of bricks and mortar schools should end, for the obsolete dinosaur that it is. We need to crush the life out of the stranglehold the left has over every American family by replacing its credentialing monopoly entirely with a competing system that can guarantee its instructional product. There is no point in saving over a hundred grand just to hand our precious children over to a corrupt, expensive, lazy bureaucracy brainwashing future citizens into entitlement and dependency.

From what I included in my excerpts:

I expect better from the fellow veterans of the 1st Cav.
