GROWING DEEP AND STRONG

One day, my mother and I were working together in the garden where we were transplanting plants for the third time. Grown from seed in a small container, the plants had been transferred to a larger container; then transplanted into the garden. Now, because I was moving, we were transplanting them once again.

Inexperienced as a gardener, I turned to my green-thumbed mother. "Isn’t this bad for them?" I asked, as we dug them up and shook the dirt from the roots. "Won’t it hurt these plants, being uprooted and transplanted so many times?" "Oh" my mother replied. "Transplanting doesn’t hurt them. In fact, it’s good for the ones that survive. That’s how their roots grow strong. Their roots will grow deep, and they will make strong plants".

Often, I’ve felt like those small plants – uprooted and turned upside. Sometimes I’ve endured the change willingly, sometimes reluctantly, but usually my reaction has been a combination. Won’t this be hard on me? I ask. Wouldn’t things be better if things remained the same? That’s when I remember my mother’s words: That’s how the roots grow deep and strong.

Anything hitting the outfield grass doesn't get much roll, huh? Thud!

I haven't seen any evidence of drain guys, but last night the lake was 1/3 of its former self. On one side I can see a tunnel under the corner ice that just may lead to the drain.

Spring is coming...

And the cul-de-sac is about 1/2 ice free now. Except for the pile of snow in the middle, and thick ice around the edges, I can see dry street.

All that dry street was solid ice last week or so. Note the light post in the first picture. That is the first stop when sliding. d:o)

As we celebrate a NEW Springtime....

BENEATH THE CHERRY BLOSSOMS

Beneath the cherry blossoms
I take your arm
And we stroll along the old familiar path.

A single petal floats from the tree above
And softly lands upon my hair.
You pluck it, and put it gently to your lips.

Oh, how I love springtime with you,
When everything is new and fresh
And we are surrounded with the promise of new beginnings.

How I wish you and I could return
To the beginning of our time together,
And capture the springtime of our youth -

And walk together forever, beneath the Cherry Blossoms of Spring.

I wouldn't mind being young again if the times were like they were then. In todays world...I really don't think so.

I wish there were a way to lock ourselves (with our ‘special someone’) into a magic chamber, and lock out “FATHER TIME”.
