I believe there would be less child prostitution if there were more jobs for children in the private sector. Especially after school jobs in manufacturing and heavy industry.

Oakland is a pit. Dangerous place, IMHO. I heard a report on NPR a few months ago (occasionally they turn out a useful piece) about girls actually getting KIDNAPPED in Oakland, taken other places in CA, and forcibly turned to prostitution. The police just labelled them runaways and wouldn’t bother with it. NPR had interviews with two girls who had actually been through it, but managed to get away. (They had been taken to Sacramento, which I guess is just far enough that they didn’t know anybody to help them there.) Heartbreaking.
When it is done in the dark of night and nary a sound is heard it is called justice.
