Graham: Explore limits on Quran burnings ("free speech is a great idea, but we're in a war")
CBS Face the Nation / Politico ^ | 2011-04-03 | Glenn Thrush

Posted on 04/03/2011 3:19:30 PM PDT by rabscuttle385

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), a military lawyer, is the first member of Congress to say the legislature needs to explore the possibility, however unlikely, of limiting some kinds of free speech - like Terry Jones' Quran burning - that help America's enemies.

"I wish we could find a way to hold people accountable. Free speech is a great idea, but we're in a war," he told CBS's Bob Schieffer on "Face the Nation."

"During World War II, we had limits on what you could do if it inspired the enemy," Graham said, adding that he wanted to do "anything we can to push back here in America against acts like this that put our troops at risk."

Ok Linsey. Since you are presently inspiring Muslim Jihadists, would you please STFU and have the good form to resign and never speak in public again?

Oh, you meant limits on US not you, I see.....

Hey Lindsey, how about this: When Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, Egypt, Libya, Sudan and Afghanistan all allow Bibles to enter their country without being seized and BURNED, then we can talk about "proper treatment" of the qu'rap here in America.

Until then, sit down, STFU you queer as a three-dollar-bill closet homo!!!!

I think he misspoke. We had limits on what you could say about troop movements, but not on what would provoke the enemy

Hasn't he ever seen a movie (or cartoon for that matter) made during WWII. I gurantee you that no one in the United States were concerned about the feeling of the Japanese or Germans.

If anything someone in the same position as Graham would have said anything like this during WWII they would be the ones under investigation for giving aid and comfort to the enemy.

So, we are back to Bubba Klinton’s “Americans have TOO MUCH freedom”?

I won’t burn any Koran’s, the old sears catalog in the outhouse treatment seems more appropriate.

Maybe ship them to Mecca after use. ;-)

media first inspires a backwoods preacher who can’t even get 100 people to attend his church to burn a Koran (which is his private property) for the publicity - then they provide even more publicity, so much so that even semi-literate Muslims in an Afgan backwater hear about it...then they blame the resulting mayhem on the completely irrelevant and powerless preacher. Awesome work MSM!

This is ridiculous. How about worrying about burning of the American Flag? How about the Holy Bible?

If they favor the Koran in this way, we may just have to have a mass Koran burning around the country.

"During World War II, we had limits on what you could do if it inspired the enemy,"
Wasn't around for WWII, but my guesses are 1) there were no limits because; 2) if you did something that inspired the enemy, real Americans would seriously kick your @ss.
You may remember real Americans ... the people who damned near don't exist anymore ... who put America first.
Today we have too many who put themselves first, their ethnic (or victim) group second and no thought of America other than what they can get from it for free.
Whining, sniveling, gutless wimps and wusses.

I was thinking the exact same thing. I can remember a Popeye cartoon where he sang “When Japs they start swarming, be sure to take warning, call Popeye the sailor man”. This was after Popeye had eliminated a large number of them.

It was probably around 1955 when I saw that cartoon. They would never play it now.

“...at what point did he figure out we were in a war?”

That jumped right out at me, too. Finally an admission that we’re in a war. But when we put such limits on ourselves, the other side automatically wins. One would think any halfway intelligent person could see that these people flying into a rage over burning some pieces of paper proves everything we’ve said about them.

Back in WWII we knew the Japanese and Nazis were doing atrocities sort of like Muslims now.

Does anyone think for a minute we worried about insulting them? We went flat out and literally whipped the hell out of them. We still held on to our values but when the Japs started killing prisoners on Guadalcanal, I recall a marine saying they simply did the same thing back to them.

That wasn’t the way we wanted to fight but we sure as heck were not going to take that kind of evil sitting down either.

We can’t burn a koran, but muslims can go on killing Jews and Christians. Muslim leaders can call for the destruction of America and Israel, and our leaders say we can negotiate w/them. Many of America’s leaders are morally vacant and corrupt. They are morally sick.

To think that our soldiers in Afghanistan are dying to protect the right of a bunch of illiterate savages to protest the burning of their “holy book” by murdering innocent people, not to mention the right of a US Senator to advocate the repeal of the 1st Amendment for the same reason - further words fail me. With “Republicans” like Graham, who needs Democrats?

Sen. Graham, do you really want to advocate giving our enemies control over what Americans can and cannot say and do? Really? If so, then it seems to me that they’ve won. Are you, Sen. Graham, really advocating we surrender our right of free speech because Mohammedians threaten violence?

“”During World War II, we had limits on what you could do if it inspired the enemy,” Graham said”

This dickhead is a lawyer, perhaps he should study the context. During WW2, our speech restraints were intended to prevent giving aid and comfort to the enemy.

Mocking the enemy was JUST FINE and it was ENCOURAGED as it stiffened us up for an epic battle that we were far from being assured victory. That is EXACTLY what burning a Koran is.

...and for a lawyer, he has a very, very, loose definition for the word “inspire”.

Just when I think I can’t despise this creep anymore. So, just because we’re afraid of muslim extremists he wants to give up free speech.

This is America. If someone wants to burn the Koran he has the right to do it. Just like he can burn the Bible if he wants to.

I don’t understand these people. We’re in a war and they’re afraid they’re going to offend the enemy and make them want to kill us.
