Fence in Pacific to try to corral radiation coming from nuclear plant

Tokyo (CNN) -- Workers at the stricken Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant are onto "Plan C" in their bid to stop highly radioactive water from gushing directly into the Pacific Ocean through a cracked concrete shaft, a Japanese nuclear official said Monday.

Neither of the first two attempts to fill up the 20-centimeter (8-inch) crack outside the No. 2 reactor's turbine building -- on Saturday by pouring in concrete, and then Sunday by using a chemical compound mixed with sawdust and newspaper -- has been successful.

"We were assuming and hoping (that water) would stay in the containment vessel as vapor after being cooled," he said. "However, it may have flowed into the building, and then the trench."

Drape heavy silicone sheeting across it on the inside.

That might work, but it looks as if there is no direct access to the inside of the crack. Would have to be a suicide scuba diver.

We need some of those submersibles used on the Deep Sea BP Oil Spill. Wonder if they radiation harden any of those ?

Was thinking you could always freeze the tunnels if you had enough cooling, but that would require a lot of electricity. No easy choices.

And the problem with building a nuclear reactor by the ocean,is you can’t just bury it and hope for the best a la Chernobyl. Not to mention a tectonically active part of the world.

The Japanese failed themselves and they’ve done themselves a serious disfavor by picking that location.

Stop pouring water long enough to stem seepage, pour some molten andvery dense metal in front of it and then fill the crack with your concrete goo.

Or just use Gorilla Glue. Seems to work on almost anything I need to fix.

They are trying all kinds of stuff, but resources appear to be limited. Apparently they used bath salts for their dye markers when they were tracking water paths. Here is a pdf diagram of the route of the leaking water from the Turbine #2 Building.

Why worry? What is the worst that could happen with a radiation leak off the coast of Japan?

The Japanese should call Obama for help. He could simply wave his hand and the whole thing would be put right.

At least, that is what all Democrats and left-wing radicals think.

What is the worst that could happen with a radiation leak into the sea, well how about more radiation leaking into the sea ? Yes. That is what we have. Now low level radioactive discharge from #5 and #6 will occur on Monday. Listen to the video at link.

Low radioactive water to be released to sea

And on that note, later.

If you apply yourself and stick to it, you might just get in.

"After some high-profile errors, little new information on water, ground and air radiation has been released since Thursday. One reason is that the dosimeters being used don't go above 1,000 millisieverts per hour, "
