I agree. Rather and Mapes destroyed it. Couric failed to revive it.

The main reason that I watch CNN Headline news is to see the women, Robin Meade and Natashua Currie.

It is really hard to believe she lasted as long as she did.

Even my liberal wife refused to watch Couric saying she was totally unsuited to do serious news. Couric may have driven CBS over the edge, but they were teetering for years starting with Dan Rather’s manufactured news. However, people in general are sick of the smarmy news commentators on the dinosaur networks so CBS is just the first to go to extinction.

The positive out of this, is , it's dead. NBC & ABC can't be far behind. They are no different.
On the other hand FOX is Americas news network.
Fair and balanced
It's not hard to do

Bawney asks questions of the day, Joe responds.

She did an awesome job of proving what she is alright.

Whomever hired Couric is the one that finished it off.
She was an aging reader of fluff. She only has gravitas physically
(middle-age spread), and her CBS handlers wouldn't know reality
if Black Rock fell over on them.
I'd bet some consultant looked at the demographics, and since the
typical loyal CBS News watcher was literally dying off, they
thought a woman would attract a female audience, along with
advertisers of all things feminine.
On the bright side, I'm looking forward to "Katie Couric's
Notebook" spots being history as well, so I don't feel
compelled to turn off the radio as often.

Didn’t Bob Schieffer (interim between Rather & Couric) have better numbers?
