Toyota likely to halt all output operations in N. America

NEW YORK, April 4, Kyodo

Toyota Motor Corp. is highly likely to halt all manufacturing operations at its factories in North America later this month due to parts supply disruptions caused by the March 11 earthquake disaster in Japan, company officials said Monday.

Toyota has already halted overtime production and operations on Saturdays at its North American plants following the disaster, but has been continuing to operate using existing inventories during normal hours.

The automaker has apparently judged that continuing production during normal hours would be difficult as parts manufacturers in Japan have been lagging behind in recovering output. The decision is likely to affect Toyota's new vehicle sales in the United States, which is its main market.

Perhaps the White House used that weather machine to create that Japenese earthquake in order to boost Government Motors sales.

My 4-Runner just passed 300K miles. I had planned to buy a 2012 Tacoma Prerunner next fall. I would buy a radioactive Toyota before I would buy anything made buy the UAW,

Do you like the new 4Runners? I think they really messed up a good ride. The model name emblazoned on the hatch lift is really tacky. It’s now huge like a Tundra!

Glad to hear I can expect a lot more miles from my 4Runner. It’s an ‘05 with 69,000 miles on it.

97 and 98 4runner limited is probably the best 4Runners ever made with the 97 having the best looking body style of all 4Runners.

I recently surveyed a new 4Runner and was surprised with the increase in size. I really didn't want a pickup the size of my son's Tundra. I can't speak for the ride. They are built on the truck platform. My wife has a 2009 Highlander that will fill all our SUV needs but sometimes a pickup is handy.

San Antonio assembles some darn good Japanese trucks. I’m hoping this problem is over quickly for the workers’ and truck-buyer’s sake.

I have the 2005 4runner... love it. I can fit both a washer and a dryer in the back and still close the hatch.

4Runners are super good vehicles, many get 300k out of them, even more if well maintained...They’re used a lot in severe climates like Alaska, Arizona etc...

Mine still has low mileage, and has been garage-kept its whole life. I fear they’ll ban gasoline cars before it needs replacing.

When freepers post statements such as this, you should also let us know where you work.

I'm sure there are Americans who support American industry doing what you do, and I'd like the opportunity to send my business their way instead of yours if the situation arises.

BTW, my UAW-built Ford is better than your toy yoda.
