I know it’s not a good idea to tick-off a judge, but isn’t this an overreach on the part of the judge? The woman hasn’t been charged with anything and he is depriving her of her liberty. If it’s contempt, then put her in a cell. Don’t put her on a jury where she can only gum up the works.

If she really wanted out of jury duty, there is a much easier way. Just say, “I believe juries have the right to judge the law, as well as the facts.”

Last two times I was rejected for jury duty Hizzonner made a point of informing all of the jury pool that "None of this 'jury nullification nonsense' would be tolerated in his fair court"!

The judge’s actions are the outrage! I don’t think a judge can “punish” you for being a racist.
She should have said “There’s one more group I don’t trust: crooked judges.”

I have not been lucky enough to avoid jury duty.
I hated every day of it and did not even like the people who ended up serving with me. They had pre-judged it all after opening statements and then went on to prove their point in discussions.
I do believe the slant of this story is incorrect, however.

She should have said: There were only 3 choices. Had there been 4; judge would have been choice number 4 Young lady, are you trying to show your contempt of court?
No, your Honor, I'm trying to conceal it.

Juries consist of people who aren’t smart enough to get out of jury duty.

Jury Duty is supposed to be a responsibility of the citizenry. Many look on it as punishment and something to be avoided. Should someone who doesn’t want jury duty be selected? I’ve always wanted to serve on a jury! I’ve only been called once but the trial I was selected to jury was not started that day so I was free to go.

Um? Freedom of speech anyone? Since when was “holding adverse views against a particular community” a crime?
