I still believe that was one of the motivations for invading Iraq and getting rid of Saddam, the whole “War on Terror” thing was a convenient excuse, now did Bush maybe exaggerate the WMD claims? Maybe so, but I also believe, it was just being opportunistic to provide the US with a crucial base of operations, and a backup plan if the SHTF in Saudi Arabia.
I happen to agree. Under the circumstances, Iraq had enormous strategic value.
I also strongly suspect that there is more -- much more -- to the Iraq story.
For example, the original WTC attack and Oklahoma City both bear some Iraqi fingerprints.
And I recall Cheney's tantalizing comment on the anthrax attack, as reported by Bob Woodard: "We know who did it...but we can't do anything about it right now." (paraphrased).
And we still don't know what really happened to Saddam's WMD stocks...
