Two dozen strong, Vibbins Williams' loved ones packed into a Broward County courtroom Friday to tell a judge that despite their grief, they agreed that a 30-year prison sentence would suffice for the teen who fatally stabbed the great grandmother more than 100 times and took $34 from her purse.

Justin McDonald, 17, was Williams' Lauderdale Lakes neighbor. When she refused to give him $5 to buy marijuana, McDonald stabbed her 105 times and grabbed what money the 62-year-old woman had in her purse, prosecutor Maria Schneider said.

The family agreed to the term and that boggles my mind. I wonder since the term is only 30 years, will he be out in 12 or so?

Murder in the course of a Felony is a Capital Offense. The correct sentence, regardless of the victim’s family, is execution - period. So this murder, barring an untimely death, will be free to roam the streets in probably 10 years or less.

This is why there is so much violence in the black community. They confuse personal forgiveness and mercy for public justice. When someone brutally stabs someone (105 times!!!), they are WAY PAST needing to get their life together...(to quote the murdered woman’s son), and deserve, according to justice—to lose their life.

I see no conflict at all with forgiving a killer personally (and praying for their soul!)...while also expecting the state to execute that same killer (if for nothing else the safety of others).

“confuse personal forgiveness and mercy for public justice”

Forgiveness: What you do to an oppressed black boy who murdered someone.

Justice: What you can legislate or steal away from White folks.
