Jake Tapper Claims Vietnam Swift Boat Vets Now Call Selves 'River Boat' Vets
Saturday, April 9, 2011 | Kristinn

Posted on 04/09/2011 6:52:08 PM PDT by kristinn

ABC News White House reporter Jake Tapper wrote on Twitter this evening:

"Talking to a Vietnam Navy Vet who says Swift Boat veterans now call themselves "River Boat" vets bc of 2004 campaign."

Tapper did not explain what about the 2004 campaign--John Kerry or the group that challenged Kerry's Vietnam service record, the Swift Boats Vets and POWs for Truth--have caused them to change how they describe themselves.

I don't give a damn what they call themselves - thank the Lord for their work in 2004, not to mention the work they did in Vietnam four decades ago!

If I were any of them, I wouldn’t want to be associated with that lying sack of whale shit traitor John F’n Kerry EITHER.

I don't care what they call themselves. Without them, we could have had a 'President Kerry' with this as the first lady...

they had already changed their name from “swift-boat veterans for truth” to “Swift Vets and POWs for Truth”, then ceased operations in 2008.

They’re back in the saddle and they’re changing the name ? Must be gearing up to stop Obama.

Likewise. They can call themselves what they like - I call them heroes.

Swift Boat Veterans for Truth was a ‘527’ political organization. Prior to its formation, there had long been a Swift Boat Sailors Association which was a sort of “alumni group” that held reunions and helped those who served on Swift Boats stay in touch with one another.

The Sailors Association was totally apolitical. It’s safe to assume that not every member of the Sailors Association agreed with the formation of SBVT, or with its mission of keeping John F’ing Kerry out of the White House.

I don’t know, but it my well be that confusion caused by both organizations having the term ‘Swift Boat’ in their names has caused the Sailors Association some grief in the years since.

You have to remember that a number of Brown Water Navy vets who served on Swift Boats supported John Kerry in 2004. Not, mind you, most of those who actually knew him. I have no doubt Tapper could find (or was directed to) a few who are “ashamed” of the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, but I doubt that any were ever members.

All the Swift Vets I know were - and are - proud of what they accomplished in 2004. In addition to keeping a “war crimes” smear artist and fake war hero out of the White House, they were also the catalyst for a long-overdue re-examination of the Vietnam War, the “antiwar” movement, and the toxic image of Vietnam veterans the media and Hollywood leftists peddled for so many years.

Recent attempts to smear our troops as war criminals have largely fallen flat. When the Iraq Veterans Against the War held a “Winter Soldier II” propaganda festival a couple of years ago, milbloggers tore their lineup of fakes and liars to shreds - so much so that not even the NYT and WaPo would print their charges.

Finally, many people who followed the Kerry Wars learned another important truth - that old media outlets are thoroughly dishonest witnesses which operate, for all intents and purposes, as an information arm of the DNC. Remember that the whole purpose of the Dan Rather / Mary Mapes 60 Minutes attack on GWB with phony documents was to counter the devastating critique the Swift Vets had dropped on Kerry the month before.

Maybe Jake Tapper should track down a few ex-CBS News employees, and ask if they’re proud of where they used to work....

It looks like the Swift Boat Sailors Association still has the same name.

Thanks. I tweeted Tapper asking him to elaborate. So far, silence.

The Swift Boat patriots and Kerry. And W and McCain telling them to shut up. Yeah, I remember.

God, forgive me for voting for McCain. I had no choice except to vote for W so don’t hold that against me.

All the Swift Vets I know were - and are - proud of what they accomplished in 2004. The most under-reported story of the 2004 election was the testimony of a Newsweek reporter who had been given full access to the Kerry campaign on condition he wouldn't write anything until the campaign was over.

In Newsweek, about a week after the election, this reporter wrote that the Kerry campaign didn't respond effectively to the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth was "because most of what they were claiming was true".

I have yet to see that report repeated anywhere.

Here's some minor historical trivia about the Swift Vet logo: it was created by Rich Taylor, a humorist and graphic artist who posted here for many years as "Registered." Rich submitted several different versions; some in color and some that were pure silhouettes. I took a flag from one, added it to another, and that became the final logo for SwiftVets.com.

The best and most effective political contributions I ever made were to the Swifties when they were putting a torpedo into the aft end of JF’ingK’s campaign. Love those guys!

In Newsweek, about a week after the election, this reporter wrote that the Kerry campaign didn't respond effectively to the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth was "because most of what they were claiming was true".

That quote came from Vanity Fair editor and writer Michael Wolff, while being interviewed for the never-released Kerry campaign film "In the Bubble." He said that the campaign's real problem with the Swift Vets' charges was that they "were largely true." The movie trailer made it look like Wolff was part of the campaign, but he actually wasn't.
