Obama Advisor David Plouffe: Budget Cuts Both 'Draconian' and 'Historic'
ABC News ^ | April 10, 2011 | JOSHUA MILLER

Posted on 04/10/2011 9:12:27 AM PDT by Qbert

Senior Advisor to the President David Plouffe conceded this morning that some of the cuts the White House agreed to in order to avoid a government shutdown were draconian. In an interview on "This Week" with anchor Christiane Amanpour, he called the cuts both "draconian" and "historic."

"The Senate majority called what the Speaker was asking for, just in February," Amanpour said, "he called it 'draconian.'" She pointed out the cuts were now being called historic. "I mean, which is it? Is it draconian yesterday and historic today?" Amanpour pressed.

"Well," Plouffe replied, "some of the cuts were draconian. Because it's not just the number, it's what composes the number."

"So in this budget deal, the President, Senator Reid, you know we protected medical research, community health centers, kids in Head Start. We were not going to sign off on a deal that cut those things," Plouffe said. "The President was comfortable with the composition of this deal that, again, there were some tough cuts in there…but in these fiscal times, everyone is going to have to make tough decisions. So it was a historic deal for the American people."

Plouffe insisted the budget that the White House, the Senate and House agreed to preserved the country's ability to invest in and "win the future."

Plouffe began in his position as senior advisor to the president in January of this year.

These “draconian” cuts are about 2% of what is needed.

Health care spending voted for in days as a spending increase.

Spending cuts (if we ever actually see them) will probably take years and of course will be draconian.

I’m sorry. Every time I see or hear his name, I have an overwhelming childish urge to laugh.

Note that ABC actually take the opportunity to inject some refreshing straight-up reporting on the search for the BC in this story:

“Plouffe addressed the accusation, repeatedly knocked down by Hawaiian government officials where Obama was born but echoed this week by Trump, that President Obama was not born in the United States.”

Note that ABC did not state as an objectively confirmed fact that Obama has proved his HI birth. ABC correctly reports simply that (some) HI officials say Obama was born in HI. ABC does not claim that Obama has already shown his “original” HI BC. Then ABC goes out of their way to correctly report Trump's statements without put-downs:

“Earlier this week on a morning television program, Trump said ‘Three weeks ago when I started I thought he was probably born in this country, and now I really have a much bigger doubt than I did before.’ He told the host, ‘You are not allowed to be a president if you're not born in this country. [Obama] may not have been born in this country, and I'll tell you what. Three weeks ago I thought he was born in this country. Right now I have some real doubts. I have people that actually have been studying it and they cannot believe what they're finding.’”

Hussein's definition of Draconian:
$38.5 Billion of $1.6 Trillion: 2.4% of the total.

Hussein says a 2.4% decrease is "Draconian"!

Yet this @r$3w!p3 spends $1 Trillion on a slushfund/porkulus, enslaves GENERATIONS of people for his DEATHcare plan, and spits upon our Constitution by appointing czars to determine the pay of private industries.

"Draconian" is the word to apply to Hussein's actions, NOT the modest cuts put into the FY 2011 budget.

Here's how Fox News website describes it:

Trump has drawn attention in recent weeks by questioning the authenticity of official documents showing Obama was born in Hawaii -- appealing to a fringe movement that suspects Obama was not born in the United States. Most mainstream politicians have rejected this conspiracy theory as hokum, but Trump has embraced it.

Can you believe this crap from FOX!!! Trump is "questioning the authenticity of OFFICIAL DOCUMENTS". . .OFFICIAL DOCUMENTS??!! What official documents??!!!. . .and "appealing to a FRINGE MOVEMENT that suspects Obama was not born in the US!!!". . .and then the final. . .. "most mainstream politicians have rejected this CONSPIRACY THEORY as HOKUM."

Honest to God. . .did Karl Rove write this. . .

This president does not lead — but Reacts. The Repubs plan is deemed “Extreme” so he is going to put out a plan that is “Draconian”. Word games.

This needs to be met with scorn, mockery and ridicule. It was put to me recently that if you compared this to the cut that would be needed for an average family's budget it would amount to a family having to cut $40 out of their spending for the rest of the year.

We need to take this sort of comparison further in order to gain support from the general public for the type of cuts that are needed.

I wonder if someone who is good with numbers could do this sort of comparison: Take the percentage that the rise in the price of gas cuts from a family's spending and extrapolate the equivalent that would need to be cut from federal spending. This is just to break even.

Draconian would be to only finance what the Constitution calls for. We could get the debt paid off in a year or two - considering the market would go wild and revenue would flood the public treasury - if we only paid for the military and we made those dip weed congressmen get rid of staff and only pay them a living stipend.

OK, so WHAT was cut?? I only know of the figure, approx. 39billion. But, where did those “cuts” take place?

Cuts Both 'Draconian' and 'Historic'

Kind of like a Histosaurus. And likely headed for extinction. There's a giant asteroid inbound with the words "time to pay the bill" written on it.

The needed reduction in spending didn't happen. Either QE2 ends in June and the market collapses all at once, or we get QE3 and the economy collapses under the weight of worthless FRNs.

I have my doubts that there will be elections in 2012.
