PORTLAND -- Ceasefire Oregon collected 243 guns Saturday at a turn-in event at Portland’s Memorial Coliseum.

The group worked with the newly reinstated Portland Police gun task force to host the event.

The firearms collected Saturday were given to police and will be destroyed.

For each gun turned in, the owner received a $50 Fred Meyer gift card.

Helen Carons and Andrew Perez, who attended the event, were both affected by gun violence two years ago when Perez accidentally shot Carons' son.

"I just want to thank everyone for turning in their guns,” Carons said. “I really do appreciate it. My son, Nash, appreciates it. Hopefully it will save a life or two.”

Protesters stood on a nearby curb with signs saying they would buy the guns. They said they believe guns should not be destroyed.

The premise that turning in private property to the government to be destroyed will somehow save a life is unquestionably accepted. What stupidity and ignorance.

They call an accidental shooting “violence”. What’s going through that train wreck of thought, I can’t imagine.

“Accidentally”? I thought there were few if any “accidental” firearm discharges, but many negligent ones. (ie. it’s not the gun, it’s the owner.)

Dear Ms Carons. You are a moron. Your son is a moron. You should never have bred. Your son should never breed.

newly reinstated Portland Police gun task force

Once again the police have their fascist fingers in an attempt to diminsh our constitutional freedoms. It is apparently the natural tendency for all government bureaucrats (armed and otherwise) to want to disarm all citizens domestic animals so as to better control, harvest and slaughter them.

“...when Perez accidentally shot Carons’ son”.

...what if “Carons’ son” hits his thumb with a hammer? Cuts his hand with a paring knife? Drops a bolling ball on his foot?

"...Helen Carons and Andrew Perez, who attended the event, were both affected by gun violence two years ago when Perez accidentally shot Carons' son..."

That's not gun violence, that is gun stupidity. I hope the shooter got jail time.

Within this stories' single sentence is an overarching liberal concept that is the crux of their idiocy: One or a few people are idiots and cannot cope with the rules of society, so let's ruin it for everyone!

Aside from the “family members” whom we wish would never inherit our guns or anything else; this is nothing more than manufactured propaganda. By the way can you think of a better way to dispose of a gun that had been used in a crime?

The group worked with the newly reinstated Portland Police gun task force to host the event.

The police involved in this horrifying event should be indicted by a federal grand jury and charged with deprivation of rights under color of law, under US Code Title 18242. There should be a count for every gun taken from a citizen, for every infringement of the right to keep and bear arms.

These policemen USED THEIR POSITION to subtly threaten citizens to give up their rights, and they did it under color of law. Throw the book at 'em. Title 18242 specifies TEN YEARS per count for violations involving the use of a deadly weapon. And you know these cops were armed while taking the citizens' arms.

Indeed. Have your own booth with a “$60 CASH per gun” sign, assuming any of those turned in were of interest.

I have seen several pictures of guns turned in at these things and most a junk. However, I would sell or donate them to gunparts.com for parts. That said seems like a great time to ditch a hot weapon if you are a criminal.

If police can literally get away with murder, I hope you have no expectation that merely conspiring to deprive citizens of their constitutional rights will be prosecuted.
