France's controversial burka ban became law today, sparking a protest in Paris during which two women wearing full-face veils were arrested.
But the demonstrations were on a relatively small scale, with the handful of protesters being outnumbered by police, reporters and tourists.
Ironically, the biggest protest was in London, where a group of women in full black burkas gathered outside the French Embassy.

. . . and sanity begins to peek into the big European window.
It’s good to see. I imagine it’s horrific if the eternally patient Euros are getting fed up and taking action. I am so glad that the French are taking charge and kicking this disgraceful custom out. If I were French I would not want to see a carefully guarded culture destroyed.
CNN reported on this yesterday and said that only about 2,000 muslim women in France actually wore the burka
According to the reporter, the burka is not an islamic law thing - but more a regional and cultural thing
All free nations should pass a similar law banning the wearing of burkas.
Yes; they have business living their own culture while mooching off of another.
Hag in a bag ping!
Praise the lard!
Here at the university, the LEAST modest Muslim women are Iranians. Iranian women dress like American women. The most modest are Kuwaiti.
Buka’s are a Persian Taliban thing and where origninated. Nowhere in the Koran...so they cannot state it is a religious thing since they require proof it’s religious.
However, listened to a debate about this between tow Muslims...one a female politician the other an Imam. Stunningly the Imam opposed the burka...and the British female politician believed you were taking away a womans right to choose.....Boy now doesn’t that sound like our womans mantra! All her words wwere about being politically correct even though she agreed the Burka was not religious....while she adorned her headscarf tied tightly around her head.
There are laws already in the books that can be used. In many countries it is forbidden to walk around hiding identity behind a mask.
Important tool: how you can tell when it is religious belief and when it is political statement or intimidation. Simple. Look for the eyes of the black clad Barbie. If there is make up, it is political/intimidation garb. Islam prohibits makeup for women.
You can disarm them with a single sentence.
That's misleading. The law also bans other face coverings such as balaclavas and other masks in public. Basically, you can't hide your face in public unless the covering is required by the activity being performed.
Yes, people are still allowed to wear ski masks while skiing and tinted face shields while welding. No, you won't be allowed to wander into a bank with your ski mask on.
I’d make an exception for Helen Thomas.
Well that is interesting to be sure! And yes that gal was wearing makeup. She sure seemed to get her answers and statements right from the political machine of the left. Yet here was this Imam saying the burka is a “rag” and has nothing to do with Islam or modesty. .
Since we are talking about France and Burka’s, I thought pictures might help and a video might help even more.
I definitely think that this video is responsible for the French desire to strip certain women of their burka’s. I think the woman in the video looks much better without her burka.
Call me old fashioned!
Actually, the French have a long history of similar things. A story I have often heard is that after the French Revolution, they executed Catholic nuns who wore their habits in public. One famous french order was called the Madame's of the Sacred Heart and wore the traditional dress of a widow (widow of Christ) and were able to avoid French execution and blend in better.
