The Royal Treatment

Diplomacy: Well, it's out — the invitation list to the biggest U.K. royal wedding in three decades. A Mustique bartender merited an invite, but it seems the Obamas did not. It's pretty obvious the Brits are sending a message.

Sure, the royal wedding is a ceremonial affair, and news that the U.S. president and first lady weren't invited to the nuptials of Prince William and Catherine Middleton on April 30 won't rupture normal diplomatic relations.

Still, it's eyebrow-arching, given that U.S. presidents have always been invited up till now.

And the slowly leaking list of people who did get invited — charity workers, the head of PR for Audi, David and Victoria Beckham, assorted sheikhs, a Romanian count, parliamentary assistants from small European states, a Texas billionaire, Spanish tile company execs, a favorite Caribbean bartender — underlines that something persuaded the royal family that historically puts on the grandest and most closely watched nuptials in the world to say no to America's first family.

Maybe it's that Britain, America's closest ally, has been subject to an unprecedented string of insults by the Obama administration, so many that the London Telegraph's Nile Gardiner created a "Top 10 Insults" against Britain by Obama.

Does it help that one of Obama's first acts as leader of the free world was to send back a bust of Winston Churchill after the British loaned it to the U.S. in a heartfelt gesture of solidarity in the wake of 9/11?

Or that Obama treated Britain's last prime minister, Gordon Brown, even shabbier, swapping cheap presents for his good ones, denying him face-to-face meetings and refusing him the honor of a state dinner?

Where does it state that they are America’s first family? America doesn’t believe that! I’m glad that England has come to their senses........somewhat. But....they will, most likely, be thrown to the wolves, like Israel.

I see Oboobma’s goal of getting the world to love America again is working out so well. Man do I loath that sorry excuse for a President. 2012 cannot come soon enough.

How about Palin & Todd?

Any other Republicans/politicians get the nod?

Good for the royal family and their decision to keep an ocean between the Ozero low lifes and their family celebration.

"Always" is a mite overstated. The last time this situation occurred was when Prince George, Duke of York, married Princess Mary of Teck in 1893. Was President Cleveland invited?

I read everywhere that their wedding date was April 29. Have they now changed it to April 30th? Doesn't seem likely since it's been announced as April 29th for months now.

On the other hand, they may now want to obscure which date it really is because April 29th is Hitler's and Eva Braun's wedding date.

Just wonderin' . . .

The Reagans were invited to Charles & Diana’s wedding. Only Nancy attended because Reagan was recovering from Hinckley’s assassination attempt. I bet Michelle’s blood is doing a slow boil.

You’re right. Michelle showed up in an inappropriate outfit and put her arm around the queen. Good thing Michelle isn’t attending the wedding. She would wear some inappropriate, hoochie-coochie outfit.

Interesting that Obama bowed to the Saudi Arabian king but not to the Queen of England.

This is one time I agree with the Royals.. Bambi would think the big day was all about him and moose. HE would declare war on the Britts when they didnt bow to him.

Hooray for the Brits! They have been great allies, there when we needed them in the gulf wars and very helpful even before that.

I was mortified w/the ridiculous things Dumbo did starting with the Churchill bust, getting worse with the iPod for the Queen and the DVDs (in the wrong format) for the Prime Minister. He’s such an idiot and I’d ahve been disappointed had the Dumbo family been invited - they wouldn’t have appreciated the pomp & circumstance, nor the honor bestowed with the invite. Heavens only knows what they’d have given as a wedding gift!

I’m glad to see they were snubbed - in fact I’m doing the happy dance around the computer at this moment!

The Reagans were invited to Charles & Diana’s wedding.

Charles was Heir Apparent to the throne. Wedding State Occasion.

William is not yet Heir Apparent. Wedding non-State Occasion.

Good one, Twinkie...I was thinking of all the inappropriate gifts they would send...yours is priceless. :)

I was thinking along the lines of McDonald’s gift cards, or a DVD of ‘Roots’, or a gift certificate from MicHELLe’s designer, or some jars of her canned okra! lol

You both had fantastic ideas, but I have to say I love the boob belt the best! Although, some McDonald’s gift cards might be just the thing along w/the boob belt!
