Real estate mogul Donald Trump is tied for first in the race for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination, according to a new poll of Republicans.

Nineteen percent of Republicans named Trump, who is flirting with a run for the party's presidential nomination, as their top choice for the nomination, according to a CNN/Opinion Research poll released Tuesday. Another 13 percent said Trump was their second choice in a nominee.

“This is going to drive the Left insane....”

It’s going to drive Ann Coulter and Karl Rove insane too.

I'm not (necessarily) saying the poll is worthless, but they only interviewed 385 people. How in the world of statistics, is that a reliable sample-size, given we're a country of over 300M?

“It’s going to drive Ann Coulter and Karl Rove insane too.”

Sadly, it’s gotten to the point that if Karl and Ann don’t like it, then it’s probably something I would like.

Not a surprise in just a short time. The Repub party puts themselves in a box when taking on the Dems. Trump has rejected the box and threw it away.

Trump on the issues.

Just to put it in comparison, here is Rudy's policy chart.

..and Bill Clinton's chart

From ontheissues.org He is way closer to Bill Clinton than he is someone we all agree is a RINO. Heck, on a straight right/left paradigm, he is almost identical to Bill Clinton.

The Obama WH (CNN is simply an extension of it) knows it needs both Huckabee and Trump to run to take Palin down. Romney is seen more of a nuisance than anything else.

Guess it couldn’t be due to his attention to the “non issue” of Obama’s nativity story... Or so says Beck/BOR/Coulter/Greta/etc

Oh, friggin` joy.

If Trump is the GOP nominee, this`ll be the first Presidential election in which I don`t have a dog in the fight in the two major parties. Hellloooo Constitution Party!

When has CNN been a reliable source for conservative opinion? Where did they poll, the south side of Chicago?

Every RNC candidate will fall into the Right Conservative area..... until its time to vote or lead, then they all cave and become “Maverick Moderates”

That's right. Not a single prospective candidate's lead exceeds (even closely) the margin of error (which is 5 percentage points - VERY high MOE).

All these polls say one thing - the GOP has absolutely no idea who they're going to pick. And, my guess is they won't until we start having real debates on the issues. Whomever does best in those debates, IMHO, will be the most likely to capture the nomination, although it's also possible that we continue to be fragmented and no one secures the requisite delegates before the convention starts.

they only interviewed 385 people

So about 75 people liked Trump. ;-) I suggest that what they like is someone/anyone getting in Obama's face.

Where did the right conservative come from on Rudy’s chart? He opposed the gay marriage ban and partial birth abortion ban. Is that the new conservative position?
