MILPITAS, Calif. — Gov. Jerry Brown has signed legislation requiring California utilities to get one-third of their power from renewable sources, giving the state the most aggressive alternative energy mandate in the U.S.

California utilities and other electricity providers have until the end of 2020 to draw 33 percent of their power from solar panels, windmills and other renewable sources.

Subsidized energy that only works at about 20% of capacity in a good year. Yeah... that ought to get California out of their financial hole!

It won’t be met, but I guess that depends on the actual wording of the legislation. I live in California, so I’m just waiting for it to split in two.

Jerry needs to take a drive from Frisco to Livermore, and take a nice, long look at all those Square Miles of Shut Down renewable energy windmills, which were shut down by the same idiots who got them put up, because migratory Birds were flying into them.

There are political goals/realities/results and then there are engineering goals/realities/results. In this case I suspect none will converge in a finite amt of time or space. So, KA needs either a very very good spin machine or an equally effective shoe horn or both.

"I live in California, so I’m just waiting for it to split in two."

The split must be east/west, otherwise the US Senate gets two more uber-liberal Senators

This should send even more businesses fleeing to Texas and Nevada. Will the last person to leave California please turn out the lights and leave a plate of tacos.

You cannot legislate a physical delusion - this cannot be done unless the demand for electric is slashed about 65% and that is a conservative estimate.

Will they simply shut down all power production in Ca?

How much of California’s electricity comes from renewable sources now? I believe it is a lot less than 5 percent. I saw the statistic on an insert that comes with my San Diego Gas and Electric bill. Those idiots in Sacramento are truly nuts.

No, they will buy it from out-of-state and at a hefty premium.

California is doomed. However, they also seem to be trend setter for the rest of the country, so...

Should be all but abandoned
By 2020.

So 30%
Of a collapsed power grid
Is very little...

Of course, there will be emergency executive orders to exempt the power producers when energy gets really short in California. The media will not make much of it. It will happen quietly.

They should have little trouble meeting the goal. By 2020 67% of California’s current manufacturing base will be located in Texas and 100% of their current employees will be huddling in unheated and unairconditioned homes, unable to pay their utility bills on what’s left of their paychecks after deduction of California taxes and paying for food and gasoline.

The California Legislature should be prosecuted for false advertising. Renewables will not be required to generated 33 percent of power by 2020. At most, renewables will generate 10 percent. Although the details of the legislation indicate the meaning of the requirement, the claim is highly misleading. Any business making such a claim would be prosecuted and sued for false advertising.
