Aloha West Texas Rose,

Hope you're a safe distance away from the fires.....and stay that way. Been hearing about them for the past couple days.

I am so far, Big Guy. Thanks for your concern. We have several
vacant lots....oil leases...near our house, and if someone
tossed a cigarette out on to the dead grass there, all bets are off for our neighborhood.

Prayers to those with properties and animals in the fires’ paths...

The report about the horses twisted my guts...

Indeed a very sad situation. I am smelling smoke now from the
Iraan fire south of here. *coff-coff*

Someone posted on the CBS 7 (Odessa) Facebook...”You might should go to Fort Davis and take a look at all of the charred livestock, wild animals, and domesticated animals that died a horrific death.”...to someone who was complaining about having to quit throwing lit cigarettes out his window (Idiot!!). Soooo sad! And people who don’t even have shoes on their feet they had to leave so quickly.....:(

LOL! We can only water on “odd” days! :)

Seriously, you can use extra water if you are in danger, thank goodness! :)

They hit in 4 places.
That was the only place close to us though.

My brother sent an e-mail...just for a light note (if there can be one)

HOW DRY IS IT IN TEXAS?

It’s so dry in Texas that the Baptists are starting to baptize by sprinkling, the Methodists are using wet-wipes, the Presbyterians (and Lutherans) are giving out rain-checks, and the Catholics are praying for the wine to turn back into water.

Now THAT’s Dry

It’s about 1 1/2 hours south of here, but we are having windy conditions at this time.

I'm surprised they didn't get the fires under some control when the wind switched from strong south to strong north this past weekend. Seems like they should have been in position to get their gear into the unburned area and start beating it back faster.

I think that the fires are just so extremely large, Arrow,
and there are so few resources for providing water in a timely
manner that it was and is impossible to get them contained.
I just hope they do pretty soon. Lots of displaced people and
animals killed. Thank goodness no people have been killed!

The smell of smoke is extremely heavy here this morning, brought
to us by the southern wind. I can smell it here in the house
even with my windows and doors closed.

Yes, I know the fires are large. They use backfires all the time to get control of fires.

With the wind switching 180 last weekend, I’d have thought they could get some control.

They are using backfires—trying everything! According to our local TV station just a few minutes ago...
“Grass Fires Torch Pecos County - 16,000 Acres - 0%
Contained - 14 Miles from Iraan:” That is directly south
of us.
