This morning on CNN the "crawler"...those little news items that run on the bottom of the screen while the talking heads or doing what they do, a little item caught my attention.

It said: "Each 10 cents per gallon increase in the price of gasoline decreases the number of highway deaths by 2.3%".

Let's say the price of gas is $4.00 now - if each 10 cents increase reduces the number of highway deaths by 2.3% here is what we can conclude.

100% divided by 2.3 equals approximately 43.5, which means that if gas were increased by 43.5 times 10 cents, that would be a price increase of $4.35 per gallon.

So the bottom line is if gasoline goes from $4 to $8.35 per gallon...there would be no, zip, none, zero, nada highway deaths.

Every time the price goes up 10 cents, the size of the 2.3% is smaller. So actually if the rule of a 2.3% drop in deaths for every 10 cents increase held all the way until the price was $8.35, there would be 0.977 ^ 43.5 = 36% as many highway deaths.

OF course- with prices going up this much - more people will be committing suicide because of going bankrupt/losing jobs/losing homes/etc. than highway deaths “prevented”.

LMAO! Boy are they desperate to try to make Obama look good. Think you would see this if a Republican was in office? So pathetic!

Extrapolating, if it goes above $8.35 we should see the creation of new lives.

Then the N.O.W. will organize a protest against gas prices in DC.

If we raise the price of gas above $8.35 we will not only save lives, but create them!

I have a feeling that the last gallons of gas that we can afford won’t be going into vehicles.

“Since I started driving when gas was $0.25/gallon, traffic deaths must be down 81.65% !!!!”

I started driving when it was 13.9 cents/gal therefore there are no highway deaths today!

I use my Kroger card to save 10 cents per gallon at the pump. Does this mean I'm increasing the number of highway deaths?

corrolation IS NOT causation

As buggy whip sales have dropped over time, traffic deaths have increased dramatically.
All Americans should be required to purchase buggy whips to reduce traffic deaths. Kinda like mandatory heath insurance will decrease illnesses. \sarc

The GED is working it's magic in the CNN newsroom I see.

Death rates will exceed 99% sometime in this generation if we go on like this! We had better do something now.

It does if you’re white. You get a waiver though if you have ordered a Volt. That will only increase deaths by electricity power station combustion by 3.2%. Arc Flash incidents from battery mishaps will be covered under Obamacare. Anyone buying a GM product also gets coupons which can be redeemed by your in network healthcare provider for 3 dialysis sessions, one root canal, or six abortions at Planned Parenthood.

So, according to the pinheads, we should be saving about 35% more lives? Ignorant and stupid liberals.

I wonder who the unlucky .23% is? Lost an arm, leg, balls, but lived?

I’m beginning to think that 24/7 news media television networks really just mean that if you watch them 24/7, your IQ will settle out at 3.4285. Or if you want to show how smart you still are, 3R4.

The .23% are those death merchants who squeeze off another 1/2 gallon after the pump auto stops because your tank is full.
