Tina Fey: Palin Parody May Have Hurt My Sitcom
A Political Look at Hollywood ^ | 4/05/2001 | James Hirsen

Tina Fey may have been the darling of the left for her Emmy-winning impersonations of Sarah Palin on “Saturday Night Live.” But the comedic actress-director is now expressing regrets about her Palin pokes in her new book, “Bossypants.” As a matter of fact, Fey suspects that mimicking the former Alaska governor may have hurt the ratings of her NBC sitcom, “30 Rock.” “Some may argue that exploiting Governor Palin and her family helped bring attention to my low-rated TV show,” Fey writes in an excerpt published in USA Today. “I am proud to say you are wrong. My TV show still enjoys very low ratings.” “In fact, I think the Palin stuff may have hurt the TV show. Let’s face it, between Alec Baldwin and me there is a certain fifty percent of the population who think we are pinko Commie monsters,”

Fey is a parasite... she needs to develop a stand-alone character of her OWN (if she can)

The Office WAS a great ensemble comedy - much like a new job; getting to know the personalities, the politics and getting comfortable.

Then - same as real-life office work - it’s become routine, repetitive and boring.

The flirting tension between Pam & Jim/Roy, Andy-Angela & Dwight, Michael & Jan, Phyllis & Bob etc., are fixed or faded.

Time to find another job;)

It almost seemed like they were rewarding her for doing so much malicious damage to Sarah Palin.

Yep. Vicious rodents that they are.

No no they wouldn’t. How about the fact that any Liberal who writes a book automatically gets a Grammy for the audio version. Did Sarah even get a nomination for hers? How about Beck or Levin or any conservative for theirs?

What goes around comes around.

At least she doesn’t seem to be in denial.

Fey goes on to write of her and her outspoken liberal costar Alec Baldwin that “there is a certain 50 percent of the population who think we are pinko Commie monsters.”
Monsters? Please. Don't flatter yourself.

Pinko Commie Cockroaches, that's what you and Baldwin are.

Finally figuring out that alienating 50% of the population is not good for business.

Never understood the mindset of celebs being partisan political hacks.

I concur. Although Comcast/GE/NBC will try to squeeze another year out of it, a la “That 70’s Show” without the Eric and Kelso characters.

Will Ferrell pinch hitting for a month should be ok. But then I read where Carell might cameo on a few episodes next year, so that tells me that they know the show without him will be dung.

Kathy Bates was totally annoying. I HATE the Gabe character.

No, I think of both of you as something else, which would probably get me banned here. Let’s just say the word is 3/4’s the same as ‘Aunt’.

Least surprising is that her viewers and Obama voters didn’t know the difference between what Tina’s character said and what Sarah said. They are ignorant.

Great analysis - spot on.

The characters have become chatacteratures of themselves.

Yes, I know Baldwin is an America hating pinko, but at least in Fey’s defense, she “gets it”....

I never knew who Tina Fey was until her SNL parody of Palin.

Tina Fey did her job and will eventually be handsomely rewarded...Ambassador to Jamaica in a Kucinich Administration or some such. The Democrat Party sent her on a mission and she succeeded beyond her wildest dreams. All shows on media fossil NBC are tanking...don’t feel singled-out Tina.

I will say however that the appearance of Alec Baldwin in anything is capable of driving audiences away in droves.

I, for one, like the trend here. It’s appropriate for entertainers to realize that, no matter which side they end up mocking, they are going to tick off a sizeable part of their audience.

It’s just nicer when sitcoms/singers/bands/etc. stick to non-political stuff.
