21 hours...avg 40 mph = 840 miles x 52 weeks = 43,680 miles per year. I don’t think so....
Its probably an average of 10 mph, stuck in traffic trying to get to work or home.
Not sure if the number in the article is accurate, but I am guessing most people are also sitting a traffic lights or going very slow on the highway during a good portion of their commute. My wife works maybe 6 miles from home, but has a 30+ minute commute most days.
Need to subtract 104 days for weekends if basing just on work commute. Most people I know do not work Saturday and Sunday and that includes me.
840 x 37.29wks = 31,323.60
I drive that much per year to work and back.
Just another perspective.
In rush hour congestion in Houston traffic?
Man I wish I could average that speed. Then the 21 hours wouldn't sound like a low estimate. Not to mention the running to girl scouts, dance class, back to school is on 35 mph streets with lots of stop signs and traffic lights.
