Nun sexually abused me, man claims in lawsuit
Miami Herald ^ | Apr. 13, 2011 | Christina Veiga

A Broward County man on Tuesday filed suit against the Archdiocese of Miami and a Dominican nun, claiming he was fondled and groped while in the first grade at St. James Catholic School in North Miami.

The man, now 38, claims Sister Joan Marie would approach him while standing in line with his classmates and pretend to tuck in his shirt. But the nun would reach down his pants and sexually abuse him, said his attorney, Jeffrey Herman.

Only identified as John Doe 73 — representing the number of cases Herman has filed against the archdiocese for alleged sexual misconduct — the man has decided to file the suit now because his own son is entering the first grade, Herman said.

“He just couldn’t be silent any longer. When he looks at his own son, he realizes he needs to speak out to protect other kids,” he said.

I’m sorry. I’m not Catholic but this seems to fulfill a fantasy of mine. Especially if she was hot.

Why is this a problem?

If it happened, it's sexual abuse of a child, which is against the law.

This behavior degrades human beings. Sexual abuse leaves lifelong scars.

It's hard to believe a conservative would need to have this explained to him.

So...ahh...is Sister Joan Marie still working in the schools?

Or is this just a random scatter shot for a deep pockets lottery hit?

The plaintiff says he’s suing now to protect his school age son — even taking all at face value, I’d like to ask him why he would even enroll this son in that particular Catholic school if they haven’t purged the scandalous personnel, which might be more than that nun? Does he only get the choice of one school if he lives in a certain diocese?

Right, but it is hard to have any compassion for this guy, who sues 73 times?

Only if she has long sharp finger nails.

“If it happened, it’s sexual abuse of a child, which is against the law.”

And if it didn’t happen it is a real travesty of justice isn’t it?

He’s 38 years old and “He just couldn’t be silent any longer.”

No, he’s figured out that he’s 38, a loser in life and can use our fractured legal system to extort gobs of money from the Catholic church to live a lifestyle he’s always wanted.

Nothing else!

I remember grammer school ( back in the late 50’s) in N.Y. The nuns didn’t take any back talk or reason for not having an assignment completed on time. What was considered discipline back then(I can still taste the eraser dust and see the welts on my knuckles) would be considered assault today. As to sexual advances ‘’teacher’s pet’’ didn’t mean ‘’teacher petting’’.

Either you forgot to end your sarcasm or you missed that Herman was the attorney.

It was common in the public schools, too. In fourth grade in my public school, I saw a teacher break a girl’s wrist by shaking her and then slamming her across against the blackboard.

The gym teacher routinely disciplined the boys by making them bend over and then kicking their backsides.

Discipline was simply a lot harsher in all school settings until the last few decades.

Discipline? Let’s call it what it is: abuse!

Perhaps in some specific circumstances, but generally, not. Corporal punishment works.

Sometimes corporal punishment is the only thing that works — it’s either spank the kid or surrender to him.

True. Spare not the rod if you love thy child.
Discipline, founded in love can sometimes be the only tool that is ultimately effective.

I am stunned at some of the responses here. The allegations involve an adult having sexual contact with a FIRST-GRADER, a boy about six years old. How is that NOT a problem?
