The Greediest Generation

Liberals of the Baby Boomer generation are fond of calling conservatives hypocrites. If a conservative sets a moral line with regard to sexual behavior, then falls short, Baby Boomer liberals point and shout and laugh with glee. If a conservative stands up against government spending, then has a home loan backed by Fannie Mae, Baby Boomer liberals suggest that the nefarious conservative doesn’t mean what he says. If a conservative says that marriage should be reserved for a man and a woman, then gets divorced, Baby Boomer liberals shout that the conservative no longer has the right to argue for traditional matrimony.

When it comes to hypocrisy, however, it is Baby Boomer liberals who take the cake. ...

Dychtwald recently lamented the failure of his generation to assume its proper role as the wise elders in a column for the Baby Boomer-dominated Huffington Post

Assuming the role of wise elders kind of requires wisdom.

If the Boomers are bad it can’t be denied that they were raised by the “Greatest” generation...who apparently were not so great at being parents. The Dr. Spock model was used as a guide by the Greatest Gens. The Boomers were on the receiving end of Spock, as well as getting doses of “new” math, ungraded schooling, etc. The Roosevelt groupies are the ones who set the ball rolling it seems.

Also, the Boomers did not have “less” children, but had “fewer” children. Unless we want to talk about the “Lesser Generation”?

I don’t recall anyone telling me I shouldn’t trust anyone over 30. That was the sort of thing you would read about but not likely encounter.

Ben Shapiro should apply some common sense to his readings.

Oh please.

Blaming those who came before you for all your failures is well...rather immature.

All that Great Society crap was not the work of Boomers ...neither was Roe or even most Affirmative Action and all that either.

It came before them.

Boomers have paid more into FICA than anyone before them and for their whole lifetime so why fault them now if they’d like to get their return ..however poor...for what they put in?

You can lay enviro wacko crap on Boomers though...they and subsequtn generations OWN that

to me the worst offense of any generation and I see it here...especially over race and gender etc:

is this moral superiority arrogance...the notion that just by being born and educated that folks today are more moral than folks of antiquity or in more recent times like War Between the States or WWII era...because those folks were mean to women and blacks

so by being young today you are somehow better due to timing?

I say big bullshite...I hate that crap but many many GenX and GenY brats suffer from that delusion

White Boomers vote majority GOP...here in Dixie it’s between 75-90%...now how is a that a fault somehow kids?

I think these children are projecting their hate for their folks or lack of parenting on us.

My kids sure don't share that.

But if poor parenting by hippies created a future conservative then so be it.

We take them as we can get them.

But they do need history lessons...the crap we now spend so much on started about 10 years before Boomers were even first born and has snowballed since.

A mid boomer like me..1957 has just been pulled along by the wave...the early boomers had the best run...they lived the economies funded by all that huge bump that followed them coming into purchasing age.

Now that has slowed markedly and hence our problem...especially on housing which is the main culprit in this dead economy.

There is simply too much of it and not enough new home buyers to keep it going.

Shapiro is so full of crap it’s impossible to see a starting point. Let me start with some of the more blatant lies.

“The Boomers blamed the Vietnam War for their rebellion against authority, but the truth is that it had nothing to do with Vietnam.”

Actually, the draft, plus the silly way the war was fought, were major contributors to the “rebellion”. 50,000 Americans DIED for no discernable purpose. We fought to lose. While there’s no doubt that was taken over by leftists, the crowd was not leftist, but more libertarian.

“Brought up on the self-esteem mantras preached by Dr. Benjamin Spock, an avowed socialist, the Baby Boomers took full advantage of the laxity of their parents.”

Shapiro obviously knows very few parents of Baby Boomers. I can’t remember any who were “lax” in disciplining their kids. Probably there were some, but they were a tiny minority.

“...they pushed for abortion, homosexual marriage, and racial radicalization. And they did all of this while living off Mommy and Daddy.”

Homosexual “marriage” wasn’t even discussed in the sixties and early seventies by anybody I knew. Homosexual relationships were the subject of ridicule, not societal recognition. “Racial radicalization” ? Was treating others by the content of their character “radical” ? Apparently so to Shapiro. “Living off Mommy and Daddy” ? All the boomers I knew worked - consistently. All established their own homes and lives, not subsidized, but earned.

“It is the Baby Boomers who have bankrupted the country. Voting consistently for higher spending, they now complain when the country goes bankrupt and we must discuss the inevitability of cutting Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.”

A steaming pile of bullshit. Elected officials from “The Greatest Generation” were the ones who passed the ridiculous laws and programs we are faced with today. FDR wasn’t a boomer. Neither was LBJ.

“Hence the Boomers’ anger at the Tea Party; hence their rage at deficit-cutters.”

The Tea Party is largely composed of “boomer” aged people who want to cut our ridiculous deficits. I guess they’re angry at themselves, and hate themselves. I sure see that at Tea Party rallies.

In short, this drivel is nothing more than a piece of generational hate mail. Shapiro, why don’t you pop your head out and look at what YOUR generation has done. “Baby mamas” aren’t boomers. Rap “music” isn’t boomers. Instead of stupidly classifying people by age, try looking at individuals and their contributions. I know it’d be tough to fit in your tiny little mind, but there is good and evil in every generation. Like the one that voted for FDR and LBJ.

When the Great Society programs were started during LBJ's administration, I was 11.

Ben, you're FOS.

Ok, you can blame me for working for McGovern my senior year in HS, but much of that work was in my self-interest. I got extra credit from my civics teacher.

And I voted against Fortney Stark.

So there!

You are correct, sir. Apparently, even people who should know better like to stoke they myth of the flower generation Boomers, who (according to people like Shapiro who weren’t around) undoubtedly were all dopers, peaceniks, hippies who lived in communes, and they all ended up voting for lib/marxists. Read Jonathan Leaf’s “Politically Incorrect Guide to the Sixties” to get the real story. Only a tiny percentage of Boomers were hippies. It was the “greatest generation” that voted in LBJ’s disastrous Great Society garbage and set in motion the bad things that resulted.

Thanks for the pic. I had no idea Shapiro was such a cute little twirp. Is he in long pants yet ?

I can tell I’m getting old. He looks like a high school kid. Lots of passion, very little fact and an obnoxious mouth will not do him well.

I’m inclined to agree with his premise as an end of the boom’er. Those who are 10 yeas older than I, have a decidedly different world view than those of us who came of age with Reagan.

He’s not 100% on target, but he’s closer than you think.

The Greatest Generation consistently voted in Liberal pols for election after election. The Republican Party was not even competitive during their time. Conservatism was a cry in the wilderness during the hey day of the Greatest Generation. When the Boomers reached their 30’s, Ronald Reagan was elected. This would of been impossible during the 1950’s, a time of liberal total dominance. Granted on social issues the prior generations were more conservative, but on fiscal issues, the Greatest Generation was as far left as you could get.

Excellent points. Methinks Benji needs to see the glass house his Millennial generation lives in before he chunks a few more rocks at all baby boomers.

We have to go back to the 19th century to find the last generation that did not want and did not construct Big Government.

The socialism started with Woodrow Wilson and even before, dare say I, with Teddy Roosevelt.

Those who loved the New Deal and SS are the most responsible for the demise of the US.

Next in line is the peer group of the Great Society and Medicare by the criminal LBJ.

Now those people would have been adults in the thirties up to the mid sixties. A person who was voting age in the mid sixties would have been born in 1944.

He technically would have been born one or two years before the first Boomer was born.

By that time the huge socialistic structure of the US was essentially set in stone and widely approved of by both the GOP and the Rats.

DON'T tell me it was the Boomers who ruined the US. The lie and Ponzi scheme of SS, the Mega-catastrophe of Medicare and Socialized Medicine, and all the other torrential spending programs were NOT CREATED by the BOOMERS.

It was none other than The Greatest Generation (of Commies) who destroyed the US.

Read about it.

The “American Experiment” came to an abrupt end when all three Presidential hopefuls endorsed the income tax in 1912. After the ratification of the 16th Amendment, “it” all just became window dressing. The flood gates of government spending to oblivion were open due to the evolution of the progressive income tax along with the Federal Reserve.
