Should Americans believe Janet Napolitano’s rosy picture of a U.S.-Mexico border that’s “as secure as it has ever been” or a Pentagon assessment that it’s actually a gateway for Mexican criminal organizations that have infiltrated the entire country and joined forces with terrorist groups?
For months the nation’s Homeland Security Secretary has repeatedly insisted that everything is hunky dory on the southwest border, even as violence escalates and overwhelmed federal agents are increasingly attacked by heavily armed drug smugglers. Just last month Napolitano declared that violence along the Mexican border is merely a mistaken “perception” because the area is safe and “open for business.” Furthermore, Madame Secretary assured that “some of America’s safest communities are in the Southwest border region….”
A top Pentagon official contradicts that fairytale assessment, pointing out that Mexican criminal organizations extend well beyond the southwest border to cities across the country, including big ones like Atlanta, Chicago and Detroit. Addressing a U.S. Senate hearing this week, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Counternarcotics and Global Threats William Wechsler warned lawmakers that all their constituencies are confronted by the threat of Mexican drug cartels.
Even more alarming is that, once in the United States, Wechsler says the Mexican criminal groups are becoming more dangerous by forming networks with each other and insurgent or terrorist groups. In some regions the “threat networking” not only engages in drug trafficking but kidnapping, armed robbery, extortion and other serious crimes.
The threat is so great that the assistant Defense Secretary offered federal legislators military assistance in the name of protecting national security. “Many of the global and regional terrorists who threaten interests of the United States finance their activities with proceeds from narcotics trafficking,” Wechsler reminded, adding that “extremist and international criminal networks frequently exploit local geographical, political or social conditions to establish safe havens from which they can operate with impunity.”
Retraction soon to be issued. The system is working.
So, pull the troops from the other parts of the world that do not directly threaten us, and redeploy them so as to annex Mexico.
And we think we are going to escape the same fate because?
I guess they didn’t get her recent memo.
I doubt this will make Big Sis or her boss happy, Mr. Wechsler may be getting more than a memo.
We truly live in a screwed up country.
We spend $600 billion and more on defense and a pittance on defending our national borders.
And you know the liberals( the Pentagon, Homeland Security and Rinos) will do absolutely nothing when mass graves start showing up on our side of the border.
Most politicians cave to the Mexican fascist groups who support open borders and putting illegals above the laws of this country.
Seriously, how many dead Americans ON OUR OWN SOIL will it take to defend our national sovereignty?
A lot of RINOs were trumpeting about how we have to go after Al Qaeda before they come after us, yet these same hypocrites all have open borders policies.
I would like somebody to explain to me how an American killed at the hands of an illegal is any less serious than being killed by a Muslim.
Do we only value American life when the Muslims do the killing?

Guys all of you are missing the bigger picture.
Law enforcement NEEDS these types of problems, they need the illegal immigration problem and the drug war to continue to justify huge budgets, unions and the war on civil liberties.

I wonder if the Mexican government is using the drug cartels as soldiers with the mission-(among other things)- of furthering “Reconquista?”
I read a couple days ago and can’t remember the article that in fact that may be true, I wouldn’t doubt it.
We can strip it of its resources the way the USSR did to Eastern Europe after WWII. The difference between the USA and the USSR is that Mexico actually OWES us for all the social services that we have provided to their illegal alien invaders. Not to mention all the jobs stolen from American citizens. We can take the oil, the good farmland, the riches of Mexico City and return the nearly worthless parts back to them as a gesture of good will.
La Raza needs to know that even though we won ALL of Mexico as spoils of war, we actually paid for the US portion of “Aztlan”.
They should not remind us that, by rights, all of Mexico should belong to the US.
Quite frankly, I no longer believe a word that comes out of Janet Napolitano’s mouth. Her take on this entire situation is so far flung and ridiculous makes me wonder if she’s as “Smart as a 5th Grader!”
