Obama’s $5 billion weatherizing program wastes stimulus funds, auditors find

President Obama’s $5 billion stimulus injection into a decades-old program to help lower energy bills for millions of low-income families by retrofitting their homes to improve efficiency has been plagued by cases of mismanagement, waste and fraud in several states.

The most dramatic example can be found in Delaware, where “gross mismanagement and potential fraudulent activity” that federal auditors found last year could affect hundreds of homes, a senior administration official told FoxNews.com. The subsequent repairs and inspections reportedly will cost the state a significant chunk of the $7.5 million remaining from $13.7 million of stimulus it received in 2009.

I heard that granite countertops and stainless steel appliances will keep my energy bills low.

Time to apply for some government funds.

Also I hear that the ocean is a great temperature sump since, being water, it takes a long time to heat or cool. I think I'll apply for some funds for a backyard pool as well.

Which is why we need to raise the debt ceiling. We need to fund more of this.

Is this program what is affectionately known as Cash-for-Caulkers?

The article cites an Energy Department spokeswoman who said this created 15,000 new jobs. I love that we spend $5 billion creating 15,000 temp jobs (and I doubt it was really 15,000 jobs, and certainly not full-time). Maybe that includes the inspectors that have needed to go back into these houses to inspect the poor quality work.

I think when the won looks back on his miserable pResidency in a year and half’s x, his biggest regret will be the amateurish revelation of his trump card when he uttered: Redistribution of wealth, good for everyone. This country, and its nescient muddled middle, will never be same. There indeed has been a fundamental transformation already and the benign harmless do-gooder image the progresso-socialists have so steadfastly built over the years has come apart at the seams by this one phrase, but we must megaphone this obummer faux pas at every chance lest the fog returns.
