NEWBURGH, N.Y. A suicidal mother who loaded her four children into a minivan and drove off a boat ramp into the frigid Hudson River changed her mind as the van sank and cried, "I made a mistake, I made a terrible mistake," said her 10-year-old son, who survived by crawling out a window and swimming ashore.

It’s very sad. But one of the worst things I have seen are the reactions here on FR. Gads, people, grow a heart.
Why, did she have a heart when she drowned her kids?
Just not much I can say to this one.
The mother died too.
I’m so glad that he heard her say that. Somehow, I think he might be able to forgive her and not feel guilty that he lived though everyone else died.
But....but.....she was sick......just like Andrea Yates.....so we must take pity on women who kill their children. /s
I want to start the “Mothers who Kill their Children” fan club, you in? /s
I could never put myself in that Mother's brain, but I feel that her comments were directed to herself, and not to the innocent children.
Unfortunately, right now he’s blaming himself for not teaching his siblings how to swim. And probably thinking he should have gotten help faster. And he will blame his stepfather for driving his mother to this.
It’s a bizarre story, since at first they made it sound as if the mom had dropped off the 10 year-old which led me to wonder if it was because he had a different father, but then it turns out he’s only alive because he escaped.
I believe I’ve read before that many suicidal people have second thoughts, often after it’s too late. Sad story. I feel so bad for this ten year old kid.
Yes. My heart goes out to him
Yeah - the media, as usual, got the story wrong initially.
My heart breaks for this little boy and his deceased siblings. May God Bless Them.
You, sir, are a dumbass.
Pray for the boy that he can grow up with some degree of normalcy and happiness in this life, or better yet, positively affect others. He has a nightmarish burden.
