Philippine Priest In Ancient Battle With 'Demons'

MANILA (AFP) – A blood-curdling scream echoes through the Roman Catholic chapel in Manila as Father Jose Francisco Syquia says a prayer of exorcism over a Satanic cult member believed to be possessed by the devil.

"It's very painful," the woman cries in an unearthly voice, her body contorting in an attempt to break free from the tight grasp of Syquia's assistants. After a few minutes she falls silent, her limp body exhausted.

The case is among hundreds documented on video and kept by Syquia, who heads the Manila Archdiocese's Office of Exorcism -- the only one that exists in the Catholic nation of 94 million people.

That is a fascinating true story. How did you recognize this demon? We tend to say “oh, it’s pscyhological” or “oh, physical problem”, but how did you know it was demonic? Sincerely asking this — I don’t doubt your story, I truly wish to know, please

Very interesting post.

>>>”Prayer is permitting God’s mind to enter ours and transform it, raising it to a higher level — sort of like we do with pets when we humanize them. By interacting with dogs or cats, we raise them a little bit to our level of awareness. Talking to God gives us his perspective.”<<<

Totally agree. That’s why it is important to maintain positive (good thoughts) & not give ‘evil’ a window to easily access our consciousness.

Long story: Believe me, if you ever encounter one, you will know it. My 90 year old mother physically attacked me and actually injured me and I’m a strong woman. Then when I tried to hold her back away from me, the demon manifested as total blackness in her eyes, no whites showing; Her eyes were normally a beautiful green. The feeling of evil was like a heavy weight against me.

I had to call on the name of Jesus for help over and over. It didn’t leave until I “commanded” it to leave my mother’s body in the name of Jesus Christ. I commanded it to leave her and to leave my house forever. Mom started to fall but my husband (who had heard the commotion) caught her and sat her down. That was the second time she had attacked me physically. After that she was her sweet self that she was when I was a small child.

It was the little Christmas gift of a Quija board back in the 40s that made her captive to the demons. I believe that children must be protected by the good angels. Mom was a sitting duck for the “invasion”. She would “invite” whoever is out there to “come in” and get them to answer questions. Well, they came in. So many of them that she went completely mad. Tried to kill herself time and again.

It wasn’t until my Dad took her to her parents and left her there that she got able to function again. They did the right thing. They prayed over her day and night. Most of the demons left, but I always knew that one or two were still there. If she thought she was alone, you could catch her talking to them or laughing at something they said. She got pretty clever at covering up for them.

If you ever see anyone with a Quija or even discussing getting one, please tell them not to ever bring that instrument of the devil into to their home.

You can feel demonic the same way you can feel the Spirit of Christ. It’s a presence that is real. If you have experienced the Spirit of Christ, try to imagine the extreme opposite of that. It’s heavy and dark and frightening. I pray you never have to experience it. As St Paul wrote: “Put on the whole armor of God.”

I meant to mention that your name is “time” in Greek. Just wondering why you chose it.

I’m curious if there have been many, or any, well-documented cases of ‘demonic possession’ in younger children (pre-puberty)? If yes, the circumstances surrounding these cases, for example any common pattern/similarities, as well as the outcome.

OK, so you think that the soul is our physical mind and body connecting and interacting with the heavenly dimension — sort of like transmission from this world to the other. Perhaps we leave a trace (shadow, quantum representation, or entangled property) of what we are doing and thinking in this world in the other dimension and that this trace has an independent reality that can continue to exist after our physical body is destroyed.

I would hesitate to argue that the Trinity of God is a physical property, if that is what you mean, since it would imply that God is part of the universe instead of its transcendent creator. Usually Christians believe that God is not part of the physical universe, but outside of it. He is the creator of the dimensions.

However, the idea of one person existing in two universes or dimensions could be taken as a metaphor for the trinity. Perhaps aspects of our reality is a creative reflection of God’s nature.

OK, so you think that the soul is our physical mind and body connecting and interacting with the heavenly dimension

That could be an explanation using modern terminology.

— sort of like transmission from this world to the other.

Perhaps communications via superstrings to use modern terminology. Communication via superstring might explain explain how God knows whenever a sparrow falls.

Perhaps we leave a trace (shadow, quantum representation, or entangled property) of what we are doing and thinking in this world in the other dimension and that this trace has an independent reality that can continue to exist after our physical body is destroyed.

Sort of like cosmic network storage and cosmic cloud computing via superstring networks to use modern terminology.

I would hesitate to argue that the Trinity of God is a physical property, if that is what you mean, since it would imply that God is part of the universe instead of its transcendent creator. Usually Christians believe that God is not part of the physical universe, but outside of it. He is the creator of the dimensions.

Certainly God transcends the universe. By physical property, I meant since God created the universe, he can become a part of it similarly to you or I building a structure and then entering it. Who knows, the entire universe may be a living part of God. Never-the-less, some means of God manifesting himself and interacting with Adam, Eve and their children existed. Similarly with Moses. Was it all done by remotely stimulating regions of their brain without there being any physical presence? We don't know.

What we do know is that the bible is a record of the relationship between an immensely powerful being and humans. At the time it was written, those humans were quite primitive by modern standards and the communication with those primitive people was in a manner suitable for them to understand.

In our modern world, I think we have to read scripture similarly to the way a parent communicates with a child. For example: When biblical hygiene laws were established, God didn't intend to go into any long discourse on biology, chemistry and medicine. He just said, "eat these type foods and avoid these other type foods and your life will generally be better as a result".

However, the idea of one person existing in two universes or dimensions could be taken as a metaphor for the trinity. Perhaps aspects of our reality is a creative reflection of God’s nature.

God did say let us create man in our image. So, yes, we are a creative reflection of God. As for the trinity, I generally say to those having some understanding of physics yet doubtful concerning the way the trinity has traditionally been presented to them that it may be little more than the personalities/descriptive characteristics of an immensely powerful being that can from time to time manifest itself to us in our dimensions. The most common manifestation being the Holy Spirit which possibly could be seen similarly to GPS navigational devices but on a cosmic/quantum scale whereby. With GPS navigation, most people haven't a clue as to how the units work. All they know is that they turn the devices on and obey driving instructions.

The Holy Spirit may be a communication path across the cosmos via superstrings that issues navigational signals to us.

Actually there does not seem to be many cases of children being possessed. That is why I think they are protected by God from such. The child possessions that are seen in movies are not the norm. All of us children played with the Quija board with no effects. It didn’t work very well for us either. But it reacted with speed for our Mom. Back then we were completely ignorant of the spirit world, and did not realize the danger.

Super strings. I will read up on that.

The point is for me, it seems inadequate when people just assert: it's supernatural. Well, OK. But, what is actually happening. Seems like new physics might help us understand the ways of God and the nature of conscious beings.

You say that God interacts with our universe like the builder of a house may enter it. OK. But, I would still resist the idea that the universe could be “a living part” of God. The wholly other position seems a better fit for the God's interaction with the world (we don't want to worship the creation instead of the Creator). Otherwise it sounds more like the Hinduism

Really like your comment that the information in the soul lives on in heaven like: “cosmic network storage and cosmic cloud computing”

Thank you. It was your experience that prompted me to ask the question. More so to somewhat test & validate a theory derived from a main Zoroastrian belief, which is the concept of duality (good vs evil).

Basically, this concept suggests that we can facilitate their manifestation, in a physical and/or spiritual form, firstly through our state of mind & then through choices we make in life, by either thinking, saying & doing good or the opposite, evil.

Since younger children's thoughts are particularly 'pure' (good), it follows that their purity of thought acts as a barrier against evil. IOW, God has provided them with the gift of natural protection. Once we reach maturity & become young adults, then our choices matter in either preserving the gift or polluting it.

On a related yet separate note, on two different occasions, yrs apart, I came face to face with two different people, for the very first time, who strongly repelled me. I have no idea why. There were no suspicious physical signs; they looked quite normal & pleasant. In fact one of them could be described as good looking & well- mannered. Hard to articulate what it was about them that made me feel not only very uncomfortable, but also very wary. Not suggesting they were 'evil', and I've no rational explanation for the way I felt in their presence. It was simply something I genuinely sensed. My brother was with me on one occasion, later when I raised the issue with him, he expressed the same feeling as I.

At this point I am not permitted to talk about this.I can tell you that some children seers are seeing the bad guy. This is not a subject you approach without prayer.Always say a prayer before you talk about it.In the end with the true story of the Exorcist they had brought in a statue of St Joseph.Stay away from the occult.Hail Mary, full of grace. Our Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Amen fatima! Your words acknowledge the reality of danger. There is goodness for this age in them, they open the eyes. The relativism of our times tends to blind people.

Thank you for sharing that (am pinging a few who would be interested in reading this) -- I have been lucky not to encounter one and just reading your true story sends shivers up my spine

You have been brave and trusting utterly in God. May God bless you and your mother's soul.

I have never touched an Ouija board and after reading this and other's stories, I have no intention of ever getting near one or allowing anyone I care about from getting near one. With your permission, I would like to relate your story as a warning.

Time :)

well, I choose it 10 years ago when I joined FR as a 20 something because it was the way I spelt the head of the Titans from Greek mythology. It's short and easy to remember. No other deeper explanation -- my knowledge of Greek mythology was very poor at that time and it's become better now, thanks to a lot of posts by blam, sunkenciv, kolokotronis and Kosta!

odds == apologies, I'm off for Holy Week (off to Prague!) starting today. Also, I have no knowledge about demonic possessions beyond movies and have had no experience with this at all.

WVNan -- you are so correct, Christ loved the little innocents, the children.
