And the poor ignorant people who don’t know anything but “American Idol” and the rest of the crap TV tells them is important, are being sheared like the sheep they are.....

We could be riding around in cars getting 100 MPG, and not even using fossil fuels, but those in power try to keep the innovations away from us....and they must be turned out

I loved the movie. But I have no respect for gender identity politics, I think it’s idiotic, I.e. “Mama Grizzlies” vs. “male” candidates.

I would vote for Sarah.

Atlas Shrugged is a hit in spite of the bitter venom spewed by the critics. It is performing way over expectations. It was released on only 299 screens compared to the normal 2500+ for a Major studio release. On Friday it took in an estimated $683,000 or $2,280 per screen making it #13 overall, but if you look again. $2,280/screen is only beaten by "Scream 4" and "Rio" ranking it #3 by theater shown in spite of the bile.

On Rotten Tomatos the reviews are completely opposite of the audience. Critics - 10% fresh Audience - 85% fresh. This movie is doing great considering the $10 million dollar budget and every hurdle thrown at them.

If this was some artzy fartzy or semi-pornographic exploration of the dark side of humanity it would be hailed as the rising star of the weekend and the box office surprise of the year. Instead, we will just hear sniping and griping. And those who see it will still enjoy it just the same.

If you think I am kidding, the critics are howling about how suprising "The Conspirator" was this weekend because it "did so well" in limited release at $1,542/screen. Uh.. guys.. did you miss something????

Mrs. JohnnyP won’t tolerate any cussing, especially taking the Lord’s name in vain.

Is this a movie we can watch together? I read the book last year. It went in the trash can after I finished it.

I read the Foutainhead, We the Living, Anthem, Atlas Shrugs all in the 60’s many years ago. Set my path for life. I will never forget Ayn Rand. Too many expected her to be perfect. She wasn’t but had great ideas just the same.

Vote with your feet. Wife and I are going to see it this morning. First time we've been to a movie theater in I don't know how many years.

I saw it Friday night in downtown Birmingham, Michigan in Oakland county. Oakland county used to be one of the wealthier counties in the U.S.A. Birmingham is still one of the most affluent cities in Michigan. Lots of wealthy job creators/producers live there. (Lots of General Motors/auto company managers...oh, the irony) There was applause at the opening and applause at the end. It was good.

In the enjoyment of life, liberty and the pursuit of your dreams it may be necessary to take the time to pursue and and destroy totalitiarians. On the other hand (the choices of fight or flight), you can go Galt. What if there is no Galt’s Gulch to retreat to?

Life, lib...

First, I'm a little troubled that a movie review is framed in whether or not it "helps Sarah." Second, I'm DEEPLY troubled that it only appeals to adults.

The message of Atlas Shrugged is such that it should especially appeal to young people, and since the text is so massively impenetrable at times, the motion picture was the perfect way to approach them. So I do not see this as good news.

Saw Atlas Shrugged friday night - great movie, sucks that we'll have to wait so long to see the rest.

If Sarah Palin isn't elected, you will have no need for parts 2 and 3, because you will have seen where we are, and where they are going to keep us.........

Palin's support of the Libya fiasco sealed the deal for me - I will not support her or vote for her if she seeks the GOP nomination for prez. Her knee-jerk reaction to any international situation seems to be "bomb, attack, invade!"

She appeared to have a very good record as a mayor and governor, but the use of the military should be the option of last resort and should be clearly in the nation's best interests, and Libya, like Iraq and the occupation of Afghanistan, does not meet that criteria.

Saw the movie yesterday. Really liked it, though I had some problems with certain things. I got goosebumps during the Galt Line run, but it could have been so much better (a scene with the men bypassing union orders and showing up at Dagny's office to volunteer for the first run, tons of people lining the tracks as the train went by). Loved the actor playing Rearden, Lillian was spot-on perfect. Took me a while to warm up to Dagny and see her grit, but about halfway through it started to show up. I really wish there had been more of Francisco, even though I think the actor looked more like the head of a Columbian drug cartel than the elegant and intelligent Francisco d'Andonia of the book. I didn't like his look, but his delivery was okay... would be interested to see his version of the "money speech."

I do not understand this complaint about drinking (which originated in Roger Ebert's review, BTW). I didn't even notice it. I noticed maybe three swear words, the most apparent being Dagny throwing the word "bullsh**" towards her brother, James. I did leave the movie thinking it was nice to see a film for a change and not be cringing at the word F***! being said every sentence. In fact, it wasn't used a single time. I would definitely take my 70-year-old mom to see it.

Ebert also made a lot of snide remarks about the love scene, saying it was "shot from the ears up" and that Grant Bowler never even took his shirt off. Not true. Big lie, in fact. And just because we didn't have a camera angle up someone's orifice didn't take anything away from the scene. But I guess that's what Ebert likes, and no surprise. I did have a problem with the scene; it did seem like a casual fling rather than an expression of the intense spiritual importance it had in the book. I do think that Grant Bowler should do the entire Part 2 with his shirt off. That would make me very happy. :-)

I made three attempts to see the film. First was Friday night, when I already had a ticket, couldn't leave work on time and drove down to Tempe only to get hung up in traffic, so I bagged it. Second attempt was with two friends - this time we took Janet Napolitano's $3 billion toy train down to Tempe. (The Tillman run was going on and I didn't want to even attempt to deal with parking near Mill Ave.) We got there for the 1:30 and it was sold out. So I bought a 4:00 ticket. My friends couldn't stick around that long, so they left and I saw the 4 pm show myself. I will say there were quite a few disappointed college kids who were turned away at the 1:30 showing. The 4:00 was a much older crowd. More like a Tea party rally. And when I showed up at 4, there was a small, disappointed gathering standing outside and I heard someone say the 4:00 was sold out as well. I did hear the theater manager come outside to talk to people and tell them the movie would only be showing in Tempe for one week, so make sure you go see it while you can.

Wasn’t Ayn Rand an Atheist? If so, why should we Christians and Jews put any stock in the beliefs of a person who says there is no God?

I liked it. In a way I am glad they didn’t use actors I did not recognize. There were only seasoned citizens in the showing I was in.

Ranking of films I have seen this year:
1. Atlas Shrugged, Part 1
2. Limitless
3. Sucker Punch
4. Soul Surfer
5. Rio
6. Arthur

Any idea when the other parts are coming out?
