Block Righthaven Clients BlockSite for Chrome (Bloggers) The new Google Chrome feature, Personal Blocklist, does not solve the Righthaven-Newspaper alliance problem for webmasters and forum board operators. For individual bloggers, however, it's a handy tool to avoid seeing (and clicking on) any search results from the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Denver Post and Salt Lake Tribune. Download and review set up instructions here.

BlockSite for FireFox (Power Users)

1. Install the following FireFox plugin: BlockSite, by Erik van Kempen. 2. If you are on a Windows-based machine, go to: Start > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad. Leave Notepad open, you will need to return shortly. 3. Return to your browser and Copy (CONTROL + C) the below list (just between the dashed lines, do not include the dashed lines). Return to Notepad and Paste (CONTROL + V). 4. This puts the list in Notepad. Now pick File, Save in Notepad, and save the file in My Documents with the file name RightHavenBlockList.txt. 5. Next go to: Tools > Add-ons in your copy of FireFox and click the Preferences button for the BlockSite add-on. 6. Make sure the blacklist radio button is selected and use the import button to import your list from My Documents\RightHavenBlockList.txt. 7. Enable BlockSite, warning messages, and link removal.

You need to get this NOW.

I always find it very suspect when I see comments like this.

It wasn’t directed towards ya but the author who didn’t think this through.

A few months ago while commenting on Youtube I made a mistake logging on and Google/Youtube “corrected” my log on name with “do you mean (insert Yotube log on name)”?

That’s scary stuff.

There is very good reason to get these papers blocked. This is a two edged sword - both as a protest/boycott of their papers for their strong arm tactics, and also a protection mechanism to keep everyone, including you, out of trouble. This has been a major controversy here at FR for some time now.

More info:
http://righthavenvictims.blogspot.com/p/avoid-righthaven-lawsuit.html

Righthaven LLC -- a bottom feeding legal outfit -- has teamed up with the Las Vegas Review-Journal and the Denver Post to sue 'mom and pop' websites, advocacy and public interest groups and forum board operators for copyright violations. The strategy of Righthaven is to sue thousands of these websites and counts on the fact that many are unfunded and will be forced to settle out of court. Most cases are being filed in a Nevada Federal Court and must be fought in this jurisdiction.

I just found TWO Stephens Group articles on the main page.

You want those FReepers getting sued? How about yourself getting sued? How about Free Republic getting sued by RightHaven, AGAIN?

Also, see post #23 by FReeper Republican Wildcat.

This isn't the first time I've nailed a Stephens Group article. The more eyes watching, the better.

I’m really surprised at the number of people coming on here who apparently don’t know what this is about...

Thanks for the information. I’ve read about this scummy group’s strong-arm tactics, including suing FreeRepublic so any information to block these losers keeps individuals and FreeRepublic safe from them, IMHO.

The problem is Righthaven SUES. The best way to avoid that problem is simply to avoid all of the periodicals who've signed up with Righthaven.

Think of it as ELECTRONIC SHUNNING.

More recently a federal judge revealed the confidential/secret agreement between RightHaven and their corporate sponsors. Seems they don't get OWNERSHIP of the asset they file suit about.

There's a court case that long ago ruled that sort of behavior to be inappropriate.

Another way to look at it is RightHaven and their sponsors do not care to be part of the freewheeling American Conversation, so they are being kicked out of the room. They can go talk to their friends the Chicoms or something ~ maybe the Koreans will listen. Whatever, they no longer have any value to Americans.

Actually, readers who install BlockSite help Free Republic & fellow FReepers by catching articles that come from The Stephens Group (RightHaven clients).

You can also do the HOSTS file thingee, but I don't think that alerts the user to the Stephens Media Group website, just won't let you load them.
