The Uppity One
America Talks ^ | 4/17/11 | David Zublick

The Oxford American Dictionary defines the word uppity as "self-important: arrogant."

It is taking liberties or assuming airs beyond one's station; presumptuous.

During the 2008 presidential campaign, Rep. Lynn Westmoreland, a conservative Republican from Georgia, let slip what critics had been saying was the subtext of many of the attacks on Barack Obama: He's "uppity."

The Hill, a Capitol Hill newspaper, wrote that Westmoreland was discussing Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's acceptance speech outside the House chamber when he veered into his thoughts on Michelle and Barack Obama.

"Just from what little I've seen of her and Mister Obama, Senator Obama, they're a member of an elitist class individual that thinks that they're uppity," Westmoreland said. When a reporter sought clarification on the racially loaded word, Westmoreland replied, "Uppity, yeah."

Even though the definition of this term can sometimes be considered racially charged, it accurately describes the attitudes and behaviors of the current president of the United States, Barrack Hussein Obama. His remarks and actions in recent days can only lead one to the conclusion that this man considers himself to be far above anyone else in this country.

During the presidential campaign, Obama promised that he would not use presidential signing statements as a way to circumvent legislation pending his signature. This past week, however, he broke that promise and issued such a statement when signing into law the $38 billion dollars in budget cuts. Attached to the bill was a rider put in place by the GOP de-funding certain White House advisor positions, or czars. Obama said in signing the statement that he would simply "not abide" by the provisions of the bill. This is the same president who said as a law professor he understood and taught the United States Constitution, and swore an oath to uphold it when elected president.

This refusal to abide by the law can only be borne out of arrogance, and an attitude that he, Obama, is not a president, but rather a czar or king himself, and that he answers to no one.

Obama has also taken to mocking Republicans including Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan in what was a 'caught on tape' moment.

Obama was heard saying:

“Eliminating the health care bill would cost us $1 trillion dollars,” the president said. “It would add $1 trillion to the deficit. So when Paul Ryan says his priority is to make sure, he‘s just being America’s accountant and trying to you know be responsible, this is the same guy that voted for two wars that were unpaid for, voted for the Bush tax cuts that were unpaid for, voted for the prescription drug bill that cost as much as my health care bill — but wasn’t paid for. So it’s not on the level. And we’ve got to keep on you know, keep on shining a light on that.”

In other examples of the arrogance of the man that was once referred to as "The One", Obama has talked about how he once pumped gas. He said so in such a condescending way as to insult those he was trying to address. Obama has said that those worried about high gas prices should consider replacing an old gas guzzler with a new car. Former Michigan Congressman Pete Hoekstra, who is considering a run for the U.S. Senate, called that arrogant.

During the campaign he promised to put all bills online for all to see for 5 days before he signed them into law. He promised us the most transparent administration in history. Yet the health care bill was rushed through and signed under a virtual cloak of darkness, and only now are its horrible effects on our health care system and economy coming to light. And despite recent polls showing overwhelming opposition to Obamacare, he continues to steadfastly and immodestly claim that he knows better.

Even the transparency award Obama was given was received in secret.

Obama claims to be a man of the people, a mantra that most liberals repeat over and over again. Yet, in his budget speech this past Wednesday, he basically said that we are not paying enough taxes and this is the reason our national debt is out of control. He said he will take our money, our power and our rights away from us while increasing his own. He thinks he and his minions know what's best for us. That's what it boils down to.

Obama also insults the fine men and women of the United States military. On April 8th, Obama threatened the American people with the prospect of not allowing our military men and women to be paid if our government were forced to partially shut down. This is a tremendous slap in the face to those defending our nation, and shows a cocky condescension toward our troops.

Obama's exaggerated sense of importance has become more and more evident as time has gone on. During the campaign Obama said, "a light is going to shine down and you will have an epiphany and you’ll say, ‘I have to vote for Barack.’"

Then, just this past week, Obama, in an interview with the Associated Press, said "I think the economy's going to continue to improve, and I think I'm going to be able to make an effective case that ... I am the person who is best prepared to finish the job so that we are on track to succeed in the 21st century. I think I can make that case, and I think that, in the debates that take place over the next 18 months, the American people will feel that I deserve a second term."

Note that Obama didn't use the presidential "we". He almost never references anything in his administration as a team effort. It's all about him.

If that isn't arrogance, then one would be hard pressed to say what is. One can only conclude that this president is self-important and arrogant.

This president is uppity.

She should have simply described the Obamas as arrogant elitist snobs and let it go at that. Why hand the Communists any ammunition?

Racially charged? I know lots of people who I’d describe as “uppity” and they’re all the same race as I. “Uppity” is a euphenism for SNOB.

When a reporter sought clarification on the racially loaded word........

Sooo......if I were to refer to a white person as "uppity" it would be ok, they're just a snob, but if I referred to a black person as "uppity" that would be a racist remark? BULLSHIT

I just love how the left are springloaded to using the

That may be but the fact is, for a very long time "uppity" was used almost exclusively to describe blacks who didn't "know their place." That's a historical reality and it would be politically incorrect to use the word to describe a black today even if, like obama, he richly deserved it on the merits.

“This is the same president who said as a law professor he understood and taught the United States Constitution, and swore an oath to uphold it when elected president.”

obamao was NEVER a “law professor”. He was a lecturer. That likley means he filled in when no one else was available - if ever.

This guy is the ultimate product of affirmative action. He’s never done an honest HOUR of work in his life but because of whoever his black daddy is he gets to claim all of the achievements that he never accomplished and the sheeple let it pass.
