Crystal Mangum indicted for boyfriend's death (DukeLax false accuser)
The (Raleigh) News & Observer ^ | April 18, 2011 | Jesse James Deconto

Posted on 04/18/2011 12:51:01 PM PDT by abb

A grand jury has indicted Crystal Mangum in the murder of her boyfriend Reginald Daye.

She was accused of stabbing her boyfriend, Reginald Daye, during an argument. Police were dispatched to 3507 Century Oaks Drive at 3:15 a.m. April 3, and found Daye stabbed in the torso. Daye, 46, died last Wednesday at Duke Hospital, police spokeswoman Kammie Michael has said.

Mangum, the woman at the center of the Duke University lacrosse scandal five years ago, is in the Durham County jail. She originally faced a charge of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. Her bail is set at $300,000.

Five years ago, Mangum accused members of the Duke lacrosse team of sexually assaulting her while she was working as a stripper for an escort service. The accusations were eventually labeled as false, and the case was dismissed by state Attorney General Roy Cooper. The case garnered nationwide attention.

Since the spring night in 2006 when Duke lacrosse players hired her to strip at a team party, Mangum has been in and out of courtrooms and social services offices.

Mangum made headlines again last year when Durham police charged her with felony arson, child abuse, vandalism and resisting a law-enforcement officer.

Mangum was convicted of child abuse, vandalism and resisting an officer

Her defense will be that she has rage issues because of the abuse inflicted by those white frat boys who escaped punishment. The Duke faculty will buy it, start a defense fund for her and nullify the jury.

Dating this lying drunk stripper whore must be like dating Lorena Bobbit.

(I had to check it out. Sure enough - SHE DID hook up with another man. Don’t ask me who or even why a man would sleep with a penis-chopper-offer, but someone did.)

Channel 14 Charlotte:

The average murder case in North Carolina took 544 days to go to trial last fiscal year [2009]. In that time, 619 people were charged with murder and only 106 went to trial....”People get frustrated in the length of time it takes to work through the caseloads and the fact that so many cases are backlogged,” said Scott Broyles, of the Charlotte School of Law.

I believe so. And THAT my friend, is how you wipe out two scumbags in one fell swoop! Let one scumbag off the other, then arrest the perp and let her ride that lightening bolt to eternity. Just let them go at each other, and make sure you have an air-tight case.

Unfortunately, it was all too predictable.

Since this blew up in ‘06, Duke has had its share of bad publicity. But I haven’t seen any more open letters by the wonderful, big hearted faculty that was so supportive of dear Crystal. Not against Mangum after her fraud was exposed; no apology to the lax players; nothing against their pedophile colleague who tried to sell his adopted son for sex online. Just quiet as can be.

The accusations were eventually labeled as false,” Jesse Deconto can’t admit that they WERE false to begin with.

Nancy Grace has a soul mate.

Well, in fairness, we don't know if this (rather odd) turn of phrase was Jesse Deconto's idea, or if it was inserted by his editor.

In either event, I suspect the reason for it has more to do with a need to protect the Raleigh News & Observer's "street cred" than with an unwillingness, by this individual writer, to admit that the original charges against the Duke LAX team members were so much hooey.

Either way, I think this stilted, artificial, and illogical wording is tribute to the thug culture that rules in Raleigh-Durham now; an admission that the people who try to gather news in that region have to be careful not to be too truthful, lest they get their heads bashed in when they go into certain neighborhoods to get the story.

And this is the woman the Duke 88 defended, as well as the President and Boards of Duke. All those insipidly leftist people should be forced to resign and work on the chain gang for five years. With me as the overseer. I would make their lives a living Hell.

I’ve wondered why a mortally wounded Reginald Daye went to his nephew’s apartment to seek help, but if Crystal Mangum stole Mr. Daye’s cellphone as she fled that would explain it and hurt her when mitigating circumstances time comes.

I actually had more sympathy with Lorena than John, once I found out that he had forced her to have an abortion. She came from a culture where babies are valued, and at the time she was afraid the abortion had made her sterile. (It actually didn't.)

The leftist media will talk all day about John's two-timing, drunkenness, and what they call "spousal rape", but they really don't want to mention the abortion above a whisper. But, iirc, the penis incident occurred within several days of an important anniversary — whether it was the abortion itself, or the baby's due date, etc., I don't remember. The emotional disturbances of an aborting mother are often more pronounced at such times.

I'm just sayin'....

Hey, they're writers, what d'ya want from them?

I think that the overwhelming percentage of "reporters" are people who want to write books for a living, and are either too limited, talent-wise, or too lazy, to do so.

They aren't fighters at all. They want to sit at a desk, type words into a computer, and make a comfortable living doing so.

They don't realize that the profession of "journalist" is one of the most demanding; it requires a lot of courage, character, and energy to get the story that no one wants you to get. That is, after all, what the public would actually pay for.

Or maybe they do realize it, just too late. By the time they realize it, they've got no other career options; they're locked in to their path. Ta-da! Another mediocre hack journalist is born. After a few years, they're just re-writing press releases from the DNC and sending them off to their editors under their own by-line. Of course, the RNC produces press releases too, but hey, they're biased, you know?
