(CNSNews.com) - The U.S. Export-Import Bank, an independent agency of the federal government, is now planning a $2.84-billion loan for a massive project to expand and upgrade an oil refinery--in Cartagena, Colombia.

The money would go to Reficar, a wholly owned subsidiary of Ecopetrol, the Colombian national oil company.

“This is part of a $5.18 billion refinery and upgrade project in Cartagena, Colombia supplying petroleum products to the domestic and export markets,” the Export-Import Bank said in a statement. The U.S. government-controlled bank says the $2.84-billion in financing it plans to undertake will be the second largest project it has ever done. The largest was $3 billion in financing for a liquid natural gas project in Papua New Guinea.

How about a refinery within our borders ? Are we not good enough to bring in good work for our people that it has to be outsourced ?

This is what you get when you push Free Trade Communism

The Free Traders have been pushing for another bad Free Trade deal with Colombia. The US Export-Import Bank is your American dollars transferring wealth out of America and giving it to some foreigner.

This money is the start of that Free Trade Commie deal with Colombia.

Sad that so many support Free Trade Communism. So many who whine about George Soros sure want to do business with him

Okay when are people going to realize we have been sold out by our Federal Government. How in the hell can they do this and at the very same time ban it here? Hell we are still the ONLY country in the world that can’t drill in the Gulf of Mexico thanks to the BP Oil Spill. Even the UK can drill and it was their company. And people wonder why gas is going up???

Ecopetrol and Glencore closed negociation on Reficar S.A.

Ecopetrol announced today that it has closed the acquisition of all shares held by Glencore in Reficar S.A., as per the terms agreed in the Memorandum of Understanding signed on February 28, 2009.

The purchase price of U.S. $ 549 million could be reduced in approximately US$ 4.8 million as a result of the due diligence process to be performed by Ecopetrol. The adjustment will follow the procedure agreed by the parties in the contract, however, as of today, Ecopetrol already controls Reficar.

Ecopetrol ratifies its willingness to continue developing the proposed expansion and modernization of the Cartagena refinery and, in order to maximize the benefits of the company, Ecopetrol is currently working on integrating synergies with its Barrancabermeja refinery.

This kind of thing makes perfect sense if you understand the racism and NIMBYism rampant amongst democrats. This particular scheme scratches both itches. It’s o.k. to let all those brown people build refineries in their benighted hell-hole kleptocracies, but don’t try to do that in the states or you’ll be sued into oblivion.
