SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - A lawsuit seeking to stop McDonald's Corp from offering toys with Happy Meals must be dismissed because parents can always choose not to buy the meals for their children, the hamburger giant said in a court filing late on Monday.
The lawsuit accuses McDonald's of unfairly using toys to lure children into its restaurants. The plaintiff, Monet Parham, a Sacramento, California mother of two, charges that the company's advertising violates California consumer protection laws.
The Happy Meal has been a huge hit for McDonald's -- making the company one of the world's largest toy distributors -- and spawning me-too offerings at most other fast-food chains.
One recent and very successful Happy Meal promotion was a tie-in with the popular DreamWorks Animation film "Shrek Forever After." The meals included toy watches fashioned after the movie's characters Shrek, Donkey, Gingy and Puss in Boots.
McDonald's use of Happy Meal toys also has come under fire from public health officials, parents and lawmakers who are frustrated with rising childhood obesity rates and weak anti-obesity efforts from restaurant operators, which are largely self-regulated.

In other words, miss parham is too weak willed and minded to tell her screaming little monsters NO! so she hires a lawyer to do it for her.

I got into a debate about this one on a left-wing blog I stop at. They favored a bill that was passed in San Francisco to this end. Their rationale was that they wanted to force McDonalds to stop selling Happy Meals because otherwise their kids would whine and complain and make noise and they simply could not tolerate it and had to cave in and buy the Happy Meal.
So since they are ineffective parents, they want the government to step in and act as parents in their stead.
Sometimes you just have to shake your head and mutter to yourself, ‘Man, there are a lot of a-holes in the world...’
So many examples of why we have too much government and too many lawyers.
These lawsuits are patently ridiculous
Why is it that the liberal view is that Mc Donald’s should be prevented from offering Happy Meals? With this reasoning, the liberals are saying that parents can’t be expected to decide whether to get their kids a Happy Meal; it should just be banned.
But on the issue of the filth on TV, in which we now see penis and vagina jokes on basic cable comedy shows, the liberal view is that this type of thing must be allowed, we can’t censor it, etc. AND, that parents are supposed to change the channel and supervise what their kids watch on TV.
But in the area of fast food, parents apparently are not capable of supervising what their kids are eating.
I don’t understand the liberal mindset sometimes.

What a perfect example of most of our problems. Personal responsibility has parents deciding what the kids eat.
If the kids whine; sorry we won’t eat anywhere while on the road.
You can go without until we get home.
