(Congressman)drafting bill changing TSA procedures (required parental consent-children pat-downs)
heraldextra.com ^ | 4-19-11 | Billy Hesterman

In response to a YouTube video of a 6-year-old girl receiving a pat-down from a Transportation Security Administration officer, Congressman Jason Chaffetz is drafting legislation that will require parental supervision during the pat-down of a child.

"They claim there is a modified pat-down for 12-year-olds and younger, but when you see those videos, you realize that just isn't true," Chaffetz said.

The proposed legislation would require that a parent must give their consent before a child receives a pat-down, and that the child must remain with the parent while the pat-down is performed.

"I am personally outraged and disgusted by yet another example of mistreatment of an innocent American at the hands of TSA," wrote Chaffetz in the letter addressed to TSA chief John Pistole. "This conduct is in clear violation of TSA's explicit policy not to conduct thorough pat-downs on children under the age of 13."

TSA spokeswoman Carrie Harmon said the administration could not comment on proposed or pending legislation. TSA has commented on the incident with the 6-year-old girl in the video, though. It said it has determined that the officer followed proper current screening procedures. TSA also has said its officers will continue to work with parents to ensure a respectful screening process for the entire family is performed at security checkpoints, including not separating minor children from their parents during the screening process.

The congressman's family had its own run-in with the TSA not long ago when his 15-year-old daughter was whisked away from the family at the airport security checkpoint to have a private pat-down without a parent present.

I ahgree 100% on this bill.

As far as the congressman's 15-yr daughter getting frisked without parental consent and whisked away for a private pat-down, I would have never have allowed this to happen. I would have refused to fly that day, even if threatened with arrest for attempting to leave. No one touches my daughters or sons, no straight or gay TSA goons!!!!

“TSA also has said its officers will continue to work with parents to ensure a respectful screening process for the entire family is performed at security checkpoints...”

There’s nothing ‘respectful’ about what the TSA does.

Won’t work.

TSA will just say, if you don’t let us do it, you don’t fly.

Not even close, this is more ‘For the Children’ political theater which does nothing about the real problems.

If I could see video of the usurper’s girls going through pat downs this wouldn’t matter so much to me.

Get rid of the TSA and all this pointless security. If you want to have freedom and liberty, then assume the inherent risk thereof. The fact we allowed this crap, (including the unconstitutional Patriot Act), to go on just concedes victory to terrorists. Oh, and if any child of mine were ever patted down like that the TSA agent would have a black eye, bloody nose, and a few missing teeth.

Fine. I say that the American people just refuse to fly anywhere for a few days or weeks.

This will soon affect the airline industry’s bottom line and their lobbyists will be begging on their knees for congress to end this silly charade of “security”.

Note to Congresscritters: Nobody should have to endure either the pat down or the x-ray machine. TSA procedures are a violation of the Fourth Ammendment. Just profile perps.

Hey Jason why don’t you just get your head screwed on straight and get some legislation passed to do away with the TSA altogether.

What are the real reasons they have the new scanners and no dogs?

Hmmm - let's see. Chertoff, ex-security chief, has major shares in the machines.

dogs: With a number 0f muslims on the board of Homeland Security (the Fort Hood Murderer was on the board) - do we really wonder why dogs are no longer used.

Isn't it great that we have our enemies influencing security measures?

They wouldn’t be checking little Achmed Jr. anyway. He’d whisk through while little Jane Smith gets felt up by the TSA pedophile.

Achmed/Mohammed/et al just tell screeners that searches and scans are a violation of Sharia Law. Achmed Sr. can breeze right on through, but Billy Bob had best be ready to drop his drawers.

Did you catch what was said at the end of the hearing? The TSA actually refused to attend the hearing. Can you believe the arrogance. They don’t even report to congress.
