A compact fluorescent light (CFL) on the ceiling burst and started a fire in a home in Hornell, N.Y. December 23, 2010. "Those are the lights everybody's been telling us to use," said Joe Gerych, Steuben County Fire Inspector. "It blew up like a bomb. It spattered all over." Fire Chief Mike Robbins said the blaze destroyed the room where the fire started and everything in it, and the rest of the house suffered smoke and water damage. The Arkport Village Fire Department as well as the North Hornell Fire Department required about 15 minutes to put out the fire. Link
"Bulb explodes without warning," reported NBCactionnews.com, May 21, 2010. "Tom and Nancy Heim were watching TV recently, when Tom decided to turn on the floor lamp next to his recliner chair. 'I heard this loud pop...I saw what I thought was smoke, coming out of the top of the floor lamp,' says Tom. Nancy suddenly found glass in her lap. She says, 'I did not see it. I just heard it, and I noticed I had glass on me.'" Link
On February 23, 2011, TV NewsChannel 5 in Tennessee covered "a newly-released investigators' report that blames a February 12 fatal fire in Gallatin on one of those CFL bulbs." Ben Rose, an attorney for the rehabilitative facility in which Douglas Johnson, 45, perished, said, "This result is consistent with our own private investigation. ...We have heard reports of similar fires being initiated by CFLs across the country." Here are some examples from across the country:
How about this instead:
“First a Chevy Volt catches fire and destroys a house...”
Garage. It burned the garage. Lucky for the homeowner, there was a firewall between the garage and the house.
The next day(?) or maybe two while the fire investigators were there, the Volt burst into flames again: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2707043/posts
Ah, yes, and the left has been trumpeting a book that claims that conservatives are the “scientifically illiterate” ones.
It’s just another way of the left saying “if you don’t believe what we do, you’re dumb. Na na na!”
That should be large amounts.
I was working in my office one night at midnight, and I have several CFL’s in addition to many fluorescent lights.
I heard a sizzling sound like bacon, looked in the direction of the sound and watch the CFL burst into flame with flames licking up onto the ceiling of my house.
Next morning I changed out every single CFL with conventional light bulbs.
As I write this memo. I’m looking at the Black flame marks on the porcelain base.
I've had TWO catch fire.
I don't trust them.
Plus they look silly.
I've had a couple libtards try that "you don't understand science" junk with me. Well, I've got a Masters in electrical engineering and my schooling didn't stop there. My science (self)education hasn't stopped and never will.
Let's just say the conversations don't go the way they expect. Last most fun one was when I busted a PhD "astrophysicist" who didn't know squat about quantum mechanics and its implication for AGW junk science (specifically the absorption spectra of CO2).
EE here, too.
I’ve had conversations with hard core leftist “billions of years” evolutionists who insisted I didn’t understand the science that “proved” the age of the earth and “proved” evolution as the origin of species.
The thing is, I’ve had AT LEAST the amount of “scientific education” on this topic that they’ve had under the secular humanist public education system, and then I went ON to study it more and discovered that that education they and I received left out a lot of information that didn’t fit their presumed model. And _I’m_ supposedly the “uneducated” one.
