Stanley Ann Dunham, better known as President Barack Obama's mother, passed away in 1995 before seeing her son become the most powerful man in the world.
In this weekend's New York Times Magazine, Dunham gets a long profile adapted from Janny Scott's forthcoming book, A Singular Woman: The Untold Story of Barack Obama’s Mother.
The article paints a portrait of a complex woman who traveled to Indonesia with her second husband, battled the customs while raising her son and new daughter, and eventually returned to Hawaii.
As Scott writes, "To describe Dunham as a white woman from Kansas turns out to be about as illuminating as describing her son as a politician who likes golf."
The President described his mother as "single constant in my life."

Both fathers were quite wealthy.
Well, she couldn’t have been that much of a dog that two wealthy MARRIED her. I don’t think I have ever seen a pic of her but I imagine her to look like Media with Code Pink or Cindy Sheehan. She had to have had something (no nastiness please). But, in America no rich men I see had a dog for a girlfriend - just saying.
I found this comment next to picture #4 in the article:

I think she made a horrible mistake by NOT working for the Russian embassy. I’m sure she corrected that mistake, covertly!

The Clintons have their own share of skeletons they can’t afford to let out of the closet. It was a matter of keeping their mouths shut and playing along or spending the next 20 years behind bars.
In third world countries the men even have to guess at that! But you may be right. Not having to wear a burqua gave her an edge - at least the men knew what they were getting before hand and even if it was scary, it was better than marrying a burqua with high hopes.

Indeed, the Donald would make a perfect stalking horse for the Clintons because he could attack the Illegal, pretending to be a Reiublican, and do the damage without bringing the blacks’ ire down on the Clintons.

Re: Barry and his claim to never have been beaten by his mother (whereas she says she used a belt): it’s not the drugs. It’s Narcissistic Personality Disorder. One of the biggest manifestations of NPD is ‘rewriting history’. It’s what they do; it’s how they survive.
For instance, a true Malignant Narcissist will stand right in front of you, look you in the eye, and totally, completely rewrite the history of what he said five minutes before. He will then call you insane if you dispute him.
I knew a MN whose father beat the entire family—mother and four kids—black and blue for 20+ years. As an adult, this MN put his father on the world’s highest pedestal. To hear him talk, you’d imagine this man was the greatest human being ever to draw breath. The beatings? The MN imagined they had never happened. They didn’t fit with his narrative, so he erased them from both memory and ‘fact’.
That is what people don’t get about Obama. ‘Scary dude’ doesn’t begin to describe it. A person as dissociated from facts and reality as he is is not simply a sick puppy—he’s a menace. He looks at evil and sees good, and looks at good and sees evil. He’s a walking time bomb, decision-wise. We really, really need him gone from the Oval Office.
2012 can’t get here soon enough.
