Boeing illegally put second 787 line in S.C., complaint says

Boeing illegally put its second 787 Dreamliner assembly line in South Carolina in retaliation for strikes in Washington and should be required to build the line in Washington, according to a National Labor Relations Board complaint filed Wednesday.

The board's acting general counsel filed the complaint in response to a charge that the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers union District 751, backed by the national union, filed on March 29, 2010. A board administrative law judge is scheduled to hear the case on June 14.

The complaint says Boeing executives "made coercive statements to its employees that it would remove or had removed work from the (union) because employees had struck" and threatened that future strikes would cost it more work.

"By opening the line in Charleston (S.C.), Boeing tried to intimidate our members with the idea that the company would take away their work unless they made concessions at the bargaining table," IAM District 751 President Tom Wroblewski said in a statement Wednesday. "But the law is clear: American workers have a right to pursue collective bargaining, and no company – not even Boeing – can threaten or punish them for exercising those rights."

Boeing issued a statement Wednesday saying it will "vigorously contest" the complaint.

"This claim is legally frivolous and represents a radical departure from both NLRB and Supreme Court precedent," Boeing Executive Vice President and General Counsel J. Michael Luttig said. "Boeing has every right under both federal law and its collective bargaining agreement to build additional U.S. production capacity outside of the Puget Sound region."

Boeing also criticized the timing of the complaint, noting it came 17 months after it announced it would put the line in South Caroline and as construction is nearly complete, with more than 1,000 new workers hired and assembly of the first airplane set to begin in July.

This is the textbook definition of economic fascism.

It really is and one wonders how many US citizens understand this or how many students are taught such. Messerschmidt, Siemens, Focke-Wolfe, etc. all produced under control and authority of the Nationalist-Socialist government.

Cannot substantiate the details but it appears Russia, after the Soviet Union's collapse, also works the same way.

This is why the political terms of the Left and the Right are purposefully distorted to fit a particular political agenda, across the globe. And why the conservative movement, e.g. the Tea Party, needs to elevate its arguments to the most fundamental questions of governing.

I remember during the Soviet collapse the Media regularly referring to the losing Soviet Communists as the "conservatives," and remarking to my wife, Huhh?

And recall how the Republican Party before about 1990 was "blue" and the Democrats "red," then of a sudden in the Media it switched.

None of this spin is accidental or incidental.

But of course the Youth swallow what they are taught, and the Old have short memories.

If the companies go overseas, let them ask the country that they move to for the tax breaks and bail outs.

Back in the days when radio was the hottest technology on the planet one of the biggest makers was Atwater Kent. Chatter came to his ear that his shops might be unionizing. He warned that if they did he’d shut the company down. They did. He did.

Not just Dem controlled, they’re all union sympathizers, and at least one is a former union hack (SEIU IIRC).

The IAM shouldn’t be too worried. After 4 or 5 years of Boeing management the workers in SC will be begging to join the union.

I will remember that, namsman, as background to any other comments you may make on other subjects.

The correct word for people involved in any way with unions is LOOTERS.

Funny thing is, the NLRB was without a quorum for a while because the Senate refused to move ahead on any of Bush’s nominees.

Unions also have the right to pursue happiness.

Not at the expense of the rights of others to do the same

Seattle has been chasing Boeing out of Seattle for years. They were warned many times that the cesspool of liberal policies in the Pacific Northwest - west of the Cascades - would result in Boeing seeking more business friendly locations. Seattle deserves what it doesn’t get.

The complaint says Boeing executives "made coercive statements to its employees that it would remove or had removed work from the (union) because employees had struck"

Actually, I think that by striking they are removing themselves from the work? Are they not?

Ping Lazamataz when you say that.

Of course he's worth saving. He's a Free Republic institution, pinged by practically all the regulars to determine the "hittableness" of certain persons presented on the threads. Even though he would hit almost anything, we see him refuse to hit some things on rare occasions.

What about when he reforms and goes back to being as chaste as a child? Will you allow him no redemption? Laz is a treasure trove, both of hitting and of not hitting.

I have no idea what some of those folks would do without his expert opinion in these matters. He's absolutely vital; there is no question about it. Personally, I can't even imagine Free Republic without Lazamataz.

That dang check better be in the mail, Laz. the rent's due.
