RENO, Nev. (AP) -- President Barack Obama announced Thursday that the Justice Department is assembling a team to "root out any cases of fraud or manipulation" in oil markets that might be contributing to $4 a gallon-plus gasoline prices.
"We are going to make sure that no one is taking advantage of the American people for their own short-term gain," Obama said at a town-hall style meeting at a renewable energy plant in Reno.
The national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline was $3.84 on Thursday, about 30 cents higher than a month ago and almost a dollar higher than a year ago.

Bowles, Simpson scoff at 1.6% budget cuts
CNN interviews Alan Simpson and Erskine Bowles on the budget debate taking place in Washington between Republicans who want to cut 1.6% of the budget in FY2011 and Democrats who want to cut no more than 0.28% of the budget. Both chairs of Barack Obama’s deficit commission scoff at the entire debate, pointing out that neither cuts would amount to a hill of beans in controlling the spiraling debt of the United States.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - President Obama did not attend a White House meeting Thursday with members of his own debt commission, irking some of the Democrats on the panel who were expecting a high-level push from the commander-in-chief to show that its comprehensive deficit reduction plan is being taken seriously by the White House.
“He should have at least dropped by,” one Democratic member of the debt commission told CNN, speaking on the condition of anonymity because he wanted to speak more freely about the panel’s private meeting.
A second senior Democratic aide close to the panel added that commission members were miffed and privately believe the President did not attend because it would have been awkward “given the fact that he has just endorsed $900 billion in deficit spending” with the tax cut deal.

Why don't YOU study the problem yourself, you know, as in skip the parties and cocktails for a week or two, stay off the golf course and play time activities and actually WORK! Not for campaign funds, not for determining who to pass the buck to, yet again, not for placing BLAME upon someone else, not for ANYTHING but studying the gas issue and getting back to us. Soon. You work for us, start EARNING your salary. And PS-get your sorry arse down to Carolina and support the people there who suffered greatly from the tornados...give up your money grubbing for a week or two, creep.
You can set your clocks by this crap. Gas goes up, socialists “investigate”. Naturally they don’t investigate the real cause - government - which is why their “investigations” always come to naught.
