John Edwards -- 'Boozing,' 'Suicidal' & Totally Getting My Sympathy
CafeMom ^ | April 7, 2011 | Sheri Reed

Posted on 04/21/2011 2:46:44 PM PDT by presidio9

Considering the source, we do have to take this news with a gigantic grain of salt, but the National Enquirer (via the Daily Mail) is reporting that scandal-maker John Edwards is really down and out. Sadly, it's not really so hard to believe though. I mean, he'd have to be completely dead inside not to be depressed about the state of his life right now -- even if he did create a good number of his woes.

I really want to be mad at the guy. To say he deserves everything he gets. But I just can't. And I hope this news about his depression and using heavy drinking to cope isn't true.

Edwards is facing the possibility of a criminal trial over campaign finance violations connected to his payments to his lover and baby mama Rielle Hunter. A close friend tells the Enquirer that Edwards has lost 20 pounds, is a "broken spirit" who is drinking to escape reality, and has said he would rather kill himself than go to jail.

That's really awful sounding but not all that unrealistic seeing the hideous choices Edwards has made and been through as a consequence -- including cheating on his cancer-stricken wife Elizabeth Edwards, getting caught and labeled a disgrace, losing any professional political footing he had, conceiving a child through that affair with Rielle Hunter, trying to cover all that up, most likely via illegal means, and then grieving with his children when Elizabeth ultimately died from breast cancer.

However, for the sake of all four of his children, even if Edwards does feel this distraught, I hope he will seek help, man up, and take his lickings -- even if that means jail time. After all, an incarcerated father is still better than no father, especially since he can serve his time and make anew once he gets out. This is his only chance to make good on the gigantic mistakes he has made and the hurt he has dealt to his remaining family members.

In any case, I do feel for the guy -- even if it's just a smidgen. I'm sure he never dreamed his selfish, slutty actions would create the massive devastation they have.

Then again, if this whole thing is totally made up, and John Edwards is really partying and carrying on with the ladies -- then screw him, I take it all back!

Amazing that he was considered a viable Presidential candidate as recently as 2008.

I remember that some people thought he would benefit from the split between Obama and Hillary and win the Rat nomination.

To me, he was always the biggest sleaze of all. Two-Americas BS.

People who really feel sorry for what they have done will seek punishment and forgiveness. Drinking so that your personal pain is numbed, isn't quite showing actual repentance.

No sympathy here. Go to prison, Johnny.

As a democrat and a lawyer this POS has done so much evil that all the suffering in the world is not 1/10th of what he deserves.

No sympathy at all from me. Only joy.

1. He committed fraud and a legal travesty to get rich by taking money from those who did nothing wrong.

2. He used is dying wife as a political prop, while cheating on her.

3. He lied, lied, and lied some more.

4. He is sad that he never got a chance to lord over us as our master and force us into his socialist mold.

I think its called karma.

I don’t have a trace of sympathy for that con man medical malpractice trial lawyer, nor for any of the stupid, clueless idiots that were taken in by his snake oil.

Him ending up ruined and suicidal is a tiny slice of justice in a world where assholes like him usually get away with their con for a life time.

John Edwards made a living claiming to commune with women’s dead babies, saying that the babies were crying for justice against whoever Edwards wanted to sue. Then he runs for office as an insanely pro-abortion candidate. I can’t imagine a man more unworthy of the lowest pits of Hell.

On the risky assumption that this story about John Edwards is true, I have to state that although I cannot take pleasure in another person’s depression I have little sympathy for Edwards because his problems are all of his own making. Edwards made choices of his own free will and they were all bad. If he has to go to prison, so be it. His drinking to ‘escape his ‘pain’’ is another bad choice. He doesn’t seem to learn and John Edwards certainly doesn’t seem willing to confess, repent and face the (secular) punishment for his mis-deeds. That indicates a severe lack of character and integrity so I really can’t get too concerned about John Edward’s state of mind right now. He made his bed....

It ain’t pretty when the false front of a total phony who once rode high in the minds of much of the public is finally exposed.

Which is a life lesson that a certain other Democrat politician with a manufactured persona might be well advised to keep in mind.

He cheated on his wife before and after her diagnosis, he destroyed the lives and practices of countless good doctors depriving many people of their chosen source of medical care and he’s lied all his life about who he is, what he stands for and what he believes. There is no pain so great I cannot find him worthy of it and I don’t regret feeling that way.

As much as I despise what he did to his family, his community and the country as a whole...I wish him no ill will.

He WILL have to accept responsibility for his transgressions and hopefully in the process become truly repentant and ask forgiveness from all the above and God.

From that, my wish would be for him to serve his time and live a quiet life and become a positive influence.

Amazing that he was considered a viable Presidential candidate as recently as 2008.

The media KNEW about his affair and covered it up.

The Rat-bastard who was political editor for Mad's sister Warner publication "Time Magazine" defended his blackout on this scandal while at the same time trumping up reports that McCain had an affair with a lobbyist.

They kept Edwards viable so that he could keep Hillary in a 3 way race for delegates, rather than going one on one against Obama.

The media also ran their own "eligibility" smear against McCain in 2008.

America's mainstream media is 100% in the tank for the DNC machine. Even at Newscorp, their executives endorsed Kerry in 2004.
