While other students spent their weekend at VEISHEA, 19 ISU students headed to Power Shift, a nationwide, green energy conference in Washington, D.C.
Keynote speakers came to address students about various environmental issues plaguing our planet, including Al Gore, activist Van Jones, EPA administrator Lisa Jackson, and 350.org founder and author Bill McKibben
Jones said the United States is powering a civilization on death itself that's both detrimental to our health and the environment, because the fuels we are using are from dead organisms. That is why coal, oil and natural gas are all called "fossil fuels."
"We burn death in our power plants without ceremony, and then we act shocked when having pulled death out of the ground and burned it," Jones said. "We acted shocked when we get death from the skies in form of all the warming and death on our oceans in form of oil spills, and death in our choked lungs in the form of asthma and cancer. Let's stop fueling our society based on death and destruction."
The EPA is struggling more than ever against defunding, Jackson said.
The attacks being aimed at EPA aren't going to be just felt by EPA; when you attack the EPA, the effect will be to American people, Jackson said.
"The American people are counting on you to stand up for their health," Jackson said. "Pollutants like mercury, smog and pseudo-neurotoxins and killers that cause developmental problems, asthma and heart attacks."
McKibben said the problem also lies within the Chamber of Commerce, reputable as one of the largest dirty money spenders.
ISU students left the conference motivated to continue practicing green, active initiatives.

Wow! What a guest list! A regular who’s who of Marxism!
Gore, Jones, McKibbon, etc - anti-capitalist scum getting rich in a (for now) capitalist economy.
Useless @ssholes
I wonder if any of those skulls full of mush asked Algore why he sits on the board of the LEAST GREEN TECH COMPANY (Apple) and what is he doing to either fix it or remove himself from the board?
I wish I had as much of a struggle with my finances.
We prefer death via import from MUSLIM countries??
“Jones said the United States is powering a civilization on death itself that’s both detrimental to our health and the environment, because the fuels we are using are from dead organisms.”
Someone needs to point out to Mr. Jones that he powers himself with dead organisms, as I am assuming his continued existence is due to the routine ingestion of a variety of dead plants and dead animals.
What a truly bizarre article.
None of those speakers know didly about “Green Energy”. None are technical. They are all just propogandist liars of the left, and socialist government officials.
The students would not learn about “Green Energy”. They would learn about “Green Propaganda”
Very sick.
Defund and dismantle all of the socialist federal and state agencies and you’ll be surprised how much energy we save!
(This includes all of the anti-industrial, anti-population growth, agencies.)
The largest recent oil discoveries in the Gulf Of Mexico and off Brazil are not only under miles of water, they are five miles under the crust. I can say without fear that there are no fossils that far under the crust. Since oil in the Earth, like an air bubble in water, expands away from pressure, we can assume it didn’t start out as a primordial swamp and then migrate down. That tells us most, if not all, oil comes from other sources than dinosaurs. Wells in the Gulf that were pumped dry in the ‘40’s are now pumping again.
The MSM keeps the dinosaur/oil myth alive because it implies rarity and that we’ll run out; hence, a crisis. Peak oil is also a myth. Companies find oil everyplace they look. It’s just that most of it is more expensive to get at then the in the middle east.
"The Koch brothers are high peaks of corruption but the U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the Everest of dirty money, it boasts on its webpage that it is the biggest lobby in Washington," he said. "It spent more money on politics last year than the Republican National Committee and the Democratic National Committee combined, and 94 percent of that went to climate deniers."
I have never seen so many outright lies and nonsense in an article ever. Not a single statement has any content of truth.
What a mind...
Right. The abiogenic theory for the origin of petroleum is gaining traction. Continual new discoveries of oil, gas, etc., deposits exceed current usage such that known reserves are at an all time high. The only reason to limit exploration, extraction, refining and use of hydrocarbon energy is that it is the most effective way to undermine capitalism, western culture, freedom and bring the USofA to its knees.

Drats! You beat me to the punch!
Now, off to work where I am going to document all of my activity on pieces of dead plants.
And with rising fuel and food costs, and the introduction of Soylent Green ("Green!") via ObamaCare, we'll be fuelling ourselves with Grandma and Grandpa!
Like I said before, The Russians have been telling us this FOR YEARS, and their theory has been for the most part VALIDATED by the UNPRECEDENTED SUCCESS they have been able to reproduce over and over again, OIL IS FROM COMPRESSED ROCK (minerals)AND NEVER ENDING and IS REGENERATIVE. Just ask the Commies. ( in this case their science is irrefutable)
I wonder if they asked Algore about his private jet and his 10,000 square foot home in Tennessee?
Don’t you wonder ‘bout Gore’s missing ex-wife Tipper (in the sense that there is no paparazzi or investigative reporting on his failed marriage and big story behind it)?
