While Kraut.... is brilliant, he is also of the old Republican establishment that does not like to see newcomers or anyone not sanctioned by the old Republican establishment.

We have Bachmann or Palin but polls show Obama would beat them.

Even Reagan was a slow starter but sadly I don’t see anybody taking Obama but Trump.

I want 0 to lose in 2012. I am looking at the ticket of Palin\Bachman, but if the GOP primaries gets Trump... I’ll support him.

I did the 3rd party route in ‘96, no more 3rd party!!

Really? That quote from 1999 the Weekly Standard is hawking around?

"We must have universal healthcare," wrote Trump. "I'm a conservative on most issues but a liberal on this one. We should not hear so many stories of families ruined by healthcare expenses."

Probably from his book that year. If you have the entire quote, for context purposes, please post it.

I am not defending Trump per say but because I am having a hard time deciphering anti-Trumpers having reasonable reasons to not like Trump (I want to hear these reasons!)

I think a couple of reasons. As you say, he is a threat to their favored candidate, Palin or some other. And he doesn't pass their idealogical purity test, and has changed views on issues, as have many others when they decided to run for national office.

In the end, I think we decide based on how we believe a candidate will actually govern if elected. The past is not always prologue.

“If Trump does become president, I hope he puts a wig on his plane and calls it Hair Force One.” –Jimmy Kimmel

“Donald Trump said that if President Obama releases his birth certificate, Trump will release his tax return. Obama said he won’t run for a second term if Trump releases that thing on his head.” –Conan O’Brien

“Donald Trump insists that he is going to run for president. I guess he figures if he can pull off that hairstyle, he can do anything.” –Jimmy Kimmel

“NBC executives say that if Donald Trump does run for president, they will not renew ‘The Apprentice.’ So some good may come out of this.” –Conan O’Brien

“Donald Trump said he will not decide about a possible run for the presidency until after the current season of “Celebrity Apprentice” wraps up. Say what you want about Trump, at least this guy has his priorities in order. He doesn’t want to let any reality get in the way of his reality show.” –Jay Leno

“According to a CNN poll, Trump nearly doubled his support from March. Actually, he just combed his March numbers over his current ones.” –Conan O’Brien

“Donald Trump said he can’t make a final decision about whether he will run for president or not until this season of ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ is over. “Donald Trump is attacking President Obama’s background. And I said, ‘Wait a minute, Trump also is from a mixed background. He’s half jack and half ass.’” –David Letterman

“Donald Trump came out as a birther, which is Republican for, ‘I’m running for president.’” –Lewis Black

“Stupid presidents, smart presidents, white presidents, black presidents — doesn’t work! What this country needs is a crazy Third World dictator. And Donald Trump has what it takes to be that. He’s already got a plane with his name on it, solid gold buildings, a harem...” –Lewis Black, on Donald Trump

“This is what I’ve been waiting for my whole life. A President who’s not afraid to tell the truth about being a lying a**hole.” –Lewis Black

“Trump says that if he’s elected, he won’t let the presidency interfere with the Miss Universe pageant.” –David Letterman

“How would Trump travel as president? Obviously, he’d use Hair Force One.” –David Letterman

“It’s starting to look like Donald Trump may be a serious presidential candidate. If you’re in my line of work, Trump running for president for real is the greatest thing that has ever happened.” –Conan O’Brien

I could support that ticket and it would give Col. West a foot in the door to run for President down the road, demonstrating that he is an honorable, decent, America-loving man of color as opposed to Imam Obamessiah: the dishonorable, Anti-American, anti-Semite, anti-capitalist, anti-white-people, black-racist liberation theology, Marxist, communist who is acting as "president/KING/dictator".

Obama has single handedly set back race relations 20-50 years and poisoned the well for anyone of color running for President, no matter how solid they are. This may be a way for Col. West to actually circumvent that mess. O

I don't know that I trust Trump more than Hillary Clinton, Bill Clinton, Newt Gingrich, or the Easter Bunny. Trust isn't the point. We have certain realities to face.

Strategically speaking, here's what our 2012 options are, and my preference of those options, best to worst.

1. A strong conservative President.
2. A RINO President
3. A Democrat President with an American mindset.
4. Barack Obama reelected, but politically neutered and helpless against a GOP congress.
5. Barack Obama reelected after crushing a weak GOP contender, and running rampant for another 4 years.

I'd love number 1, but I'd hate number 5. When you get down to it, Obama is so bad for America, that 2-4 are far better strategies than rolling the dice on #1 when we don't have a #1 that generates really competitive odds.

In other words, if it takes a RINO or a Clinton to dislodge Obama, then the country has survived RINOs and Clintons before. It will again. What Obama is doing to our economy and future prospects as a nation is potentially irreversible.

Giving Obama an easy win against a friendly, aww-shucks midwestern governor and letting him come through strong and unscathed may be a great gesture of conservative ideals, but can American withstand another four years of a politically unchecked Obama?

Rove is now just another media talking head, discredited by his failures after 2004. He controls NOTHING. Why some Freepers are fixated on him is a mystery to me.

Rove is now just another media talking head, discredited by his failures after 2004. He controls NOTHING.

He's a political operative with a paid position with Fox News which he uses to undercut potential candidates he opposes and to built up potential candidates he favors. He doesn't have to control anything. Often influence is more powerful than control.

And once the campaigns begin, he'll be out there raising funds from big donors and directing them to his favored candidates just as he did during the 2010 elections.

He's still a player who can influence some voters and direct a lot of money to chosen candidates. Fox should not be giving him the platform he has because he's still an operative and not an objective commentator or analyst.
