That's the hilarious (and accurate) headline on a story today from MSNBC, of all places. And it's true. For those who don't remember:
Ira Einhorn was on stage hosting the first Earth Day event at the Fairmount Park in Philadelphia on April 22, 1970. Seven years later, police raided his closet and found the "composted" body of his ex-girlfriend inside a trunk.
A self-proclaimed environmental activist, Einhorn made a name for himself among ecological groups during the 1960s and '70s by taking on the role of a tie-dye-wearing ecological guru and Philadelphia's head hippie. With his long beard and gap-toothed smile, Einhorn - who nicknamed himself "Unicorn" because his German-Jewish last name translates to "one horn" -advocated flower power, peace and free love to his fellow students at theUniversity of Pennsylvania. He also claimed to have helped found Earth Day.

Wow. Sometimes the jokes just write themselves!
Man, I heard about this dude when I was living on the East Coast.
Whut a Satanic Inspired, Demonic Possessed POS.
And eluded justice for years with the help of one Arlen Specter. Can’t leave out that part of the story.
I remember this from “City Confidential”.
Ohhh...I thought this was reporting that he was dead...killed in prison or something.
Celebrate Earth Day - Compost Your Girlfriend
Just being like your Earth Day ‘leader’, libs.
Over 2000 years ago Jesus hung on a tree for all of mankind, and now much of mankind worships the tree instead of Him. How far we have fallen!
These pagan earth worshipers are cut from the same cloth as those from, “the religion of peace” and will spend eternity together.
Didn’t he spend decades in France after the murder?
Well I guess you could say that but wasn’t the body just basically dried up/mummified?
I was at Southern Illinois Univeristy in 1969-72 when he was there. What a nutcase, he was at several events I attended.
Ira Einhorn = PIG
Yes. He lived with a woman, not sure if he was married to her though.
Einhorn was tried in absentia and orginially was sentenced to death. The French refused to extradite him so long as he faced the death penalty. Pennsylvania enacted special legislation that would provide Einhorn with a new trial and no possibility of a death sentence. The French finally gave in and extradited him. He was tried, convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment. He now spends his days at the Eastern State Penitentiary (a/k/a "Graterford Prison").
Nothing like a jail cell to reduce your carbon footprint.
Finkle is Einhorn! Einhorn is Finkle!
I wish I had remembered about this guy. My kids had to do reports on “Earth Day”. One is doing it on alternative transportation, the other on endangered animals (with a plug in there to hunting that helps in conservation!).
This would have made a great report though. “The origin and history of Earth Day and its founders.” My one daughter probably wouldn’t go for it, but my other, feistier daughter would have.
