DETROIT (WXYZ) - The jury has found that a proposed protest by Quran-burning pastor Terry Jones outside the Islamic Center of America in Dearborn, the largest mosque in the United States, is likely to breach the peace and incite violence.
The jury has been debating since 3:30 p.m .Thursday. The main issue of the trial was whether or not Jones' main purpose was to say or do something that would incite violence.

As much as I despise Jones, I despise this “jury” even more. Its a clear constitutional violation.

Did you see the part where the bailiffs took Jones into custody?
I'm actually speechless.

You live in Detroit. What are they saying on the news?
I have heard that there are other "counter" demonstrations going on - no peace bond required there, though.
To: cripplecreek
Maybe if Jones burned it at some Marine hero’s funeral and claimed the muslims were faggots then it would be ok.

Where did they find authority for this in the Constitution?
To: Gene Eric
It’s a Detroit news station. At this point, be thankful it’s not in Arabic.
To: OldDeckHand
Would this apply to sermons by imams in the mosques that incite violence? Can they be denied the right to speak out and ask for destruction of the American constitutional rule of law by promoting Sharia law?

So you can protest at the funeral of an American Soldier but you can’t protest at a stinking filthy mosque full of filthy foreign garbage.

It’s actually the jury, judge and prosecutor that are inciting violence.

What the hell is going on in Detroit? How does a prior restraint demand even get in front of a jury in the first place.
To: OldDeckHand
What kind of kangaroo court is this? And why can’t WE use it against Westboro, union thugs and homo parades?
‘screw ‘em, do it anyway.
To: OldDeckHand
And he hasn’t even held the protest yet and he’s being arrested. Incredible.
To: OldDeckHand
The jury has found that a proposed protest by Quran-burning pastor Terry Jones outside the Islamic Center of America in Dearborn, the largest mosque in the United States, is likely to breach the peace and incite violence. So having a Quran and promoting sharia Law needs to be left alone (drum roll) to maintain the peace from the followers of the religion of peace?
Just watch the peace ensue...

This is what happens when people get pissed at a true leader of a country and tote a wanton attitude for CHANGE because of media bias!

As a side note, since when does a seated judge have the right to call a trial for any individual wishing to hold a public rally?

"As a side note, since when does a seated judge have the right to call a trial for any individual wishing to hold a public rally? " I don't know. It's baffling. I can't imagine what the matters of fact are for the jury to decide. How can a jury decide facts that haven't happened yet?
This never should have survived a motion to dismiss, which I'm assuming was filed.

What are they saying on the news?
I live here and all the broadcasts have been leaning towards him being a radical wishing to burn the Koran when in fact he has said from the outset that he merely wants to hold a prayer vigilance with the muslims praying for peace..........
The Dearborn police chief who testified that Jones would incite violence is a muslim and the same individual who supported the arrest of several Christians who attempted to proselytize (sp?) christianity outside of a public muslim festival this past summer.......the video of their harassment and arrest is on Youtube...........

unconstitutional prior restraint and actionable violation of civil rights under 18 USC 1983. This man is a hero. He is emerging as a leader for the Christian crusade.

I hope you're right......
As a side note, his prayer was scheduled for 5:00 p.m. today and the "trial" conveniently lasted well beyond the time for him to make his planned appearance.............
This is a travesty of justic and I hope a wake up call to all non muslims in this area...........

During their closing arguments the lawyer for the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office argued, "Just because we have the first amendment doesn't mean you can say anything or do anything at any time." Just WOW.

Well, I didn't mean the city per se. The freedom-smothering atmosphere, the dhimmitude or sheepledom.

If a video of his burning 1 koran caused rioting and hundreds of deaths halfway across the world then his presence outside a mosque would generate another phase of urban renewal encompassing all of Dearborn and neighboring areas. Easier to remove the flashpoint then to have to actually confront those who are so easily provoked by somebody expressing his constitutionally protected rights.

To: cripplecreek
"Michigan has taken a hard turn to the right despite Detroit." I lived for three years in South Bend and spent a fair amount of time hunting, fishing and skiing all over Michigan. My sense of Michigan was that if you excised Detroit, Ann Arbor and Benton Harlem for the state, it would be a very conservative place.
To: buccaneer81
Agree....this is a total crock of cow crap. Jones should be trampled by a herd of lawyers by now looking to get a piece of the gold nugget he’s due for such a violation of rights.
Even if I don’t like him or not.....this was WRONG !!
USSC says Westboro OK......
Taxpayers subjected to this clown posse jury and judge says Jones ain’t.
Damn ....

Cut off the top third of Ohio, and the real (rest of) Ohio resembles Tennessee with the exception of inner-city Columbus.
