Wonderful: Susan Collins opposes Paul Ryan’s budget

Via the Hill, the key bit comes at the beginning. I could almost tolerate her willingness to gift-wrap a talking point for Democrats about how allegedly radical Ryan’s plan is if she had an alternative in mind. Instead, after paying lip service to the magnitude of our looming fiscal catastrophe, her big ideas for cutting spending are … eliminating ethanol subsidies and waste at the Pentagon. I’m almost disappointed that she didn’t mention earmarks and foreign aid too; if we’re going to go penny-ante by targeting unpopular expenditures that won’t remotely balance the budget, let’s go all the way.

She doesn’t say which parts of Ryan’s budget she objects to, but needless to say, she’s not in the Rand Paul camp of believing that it doesn’t go far enough. Realistically, either she thinks there should be a tax hike of some kind built-in or she has a problem with his Medicare reform scheme. Given these numbers from the Times, it might be both:

Something to mull while you watch: Why didn’t she just deflect the question? There are plenty of ways to do it. She could have said that she’s reserving judgment on Ryan’s plan until it actually comes to the floor, until the Gang of Six acts, until she hears from her constituents, etc etc etc. There’s a tiny spark of hope in the polls that the public’s willing to consider an ambitious program to reduce the debt. Why reject Ryan before you absolutely have to?

Well slap me in the face with a porkchop! How’d I know Susan Collins wouldn’t like a Conservative approach?

Susan Collins, a medical miracle-- no cerebral cortex whatsoever, yet she walks and talks just like a real person.

I need a reminder. Why is it necessary to give Republicans the majority by supporting rinos?

Interesting. I could not find in the article where her plan was. She must have forgotten to mention it since I am sure she has one if she is going to bash Ryan’s plan.

Olympia Snowe is up for reelection. I wonder where she will stand. It has almost been a pattern that the one who does not have to campaign takes the liberal approach and the one who has to run get reelected takes the conservative approach.

I think they are tag teaming RINOS (or RINOES)

perhaps if Dan Quale is a Freeper he could help me out with that word

“yet she walks and talks just like a real person. “

You can say that after you’ve heard her speak?

Anyone who opposed ryans’ plan should immediately be asked “what is your plan?”.

So that we can elect the majority leader and control the agenda in the Senate. the majority leader has a lot of power to bring or not bring items up for a vote. Like judicial nominations, etc. etc.

Some of the liberal republicans will get peeled off from our side, but we can peel some of the conservative democrats off from their side.

Actually the majority leader has great power to influence opposing party members to come over to his side or to control the weak sisters on his side.

"but she did say that she would like to begin moving the government towards solvency by eliminating ethanol and farm subsidies as well as funding for an extra engine for the F-35 fighter jet."

I'm all for elimination of crappy ethanol gasoline. Ryan's proposals don't go nearly far enough.

So big government liberals Obama, Trump and Collins oppose Ryan’s budget.

No surprise in that.

Barrrrf. Susan Collins. It’s almost not even news to see that RINO acting like a RINO. The democrats can have her as far as I’m concerned.

The NY Times polled "1,224 adults nationwide".

Not "likely voters", "registered voters", "eligible voters", "taxpayers" or even "US citizens". "Adults".

If you ask a lot of clueless people a question, you'll get a lot of stupid answers.

So there are a majority of idiots that inhabit the state of Maine. Susie is only representing her constituents. Dumb.$$e$... Sorry but I am NOT in the mood to continue year in and year out to read about the stupidity of people who continue to elect idiots.

I firmly believe that the very small number of “leaders” today who are trying to save America fiscally will one day be viewed the same as the handful of Romans who tried against impossible odds to save the Roman Republic in its last days.

A noble but futile effort.
