CLEARWATER - Opponents of immigration bills at the state Capitol have tried just about everything so far to get their message out. They've done lots of lobbying, marched in rallies and held prayer vigils.
Monday, they let their children deliver their message.
Hundreds of immigrant activists marched with their children outside the Capitol and shouted, "We are Florida."
Young children waved American flags 930 and carried signs reading, "We are Florida not Arizona."
Another protester carried a sign that read, "Stop Racism. We Are All Human."
The demonstrators marched around the Capitol Courtyard to the steps of the Old Capitol, where they recited the Pledge of Allegiance, sang the Star Spangled Banner and prayed.
The House and Senate bills differ at this time. The House bill would allow police to check the immigration status of people under criminal investigation if there's a reasonable suspicion they may be illegal immigrants.
The Senate version would allow law enforcement to check the status of inmates. Both bills would require employers to check the immigration status of their workers.
Sixteen-year-old protester Cecilia Perez of Clearwater said children are afraid the legislation will cause them to be separated from their parents.
"We do not want our families to be separated, first of all. And also, we do not want anybody to have racial profiling around the state of Florida, which is our main goal too," she explained.
Other children echoed fears of their families being split up.
"I love my parents because they give us shelter, food and all kinds of stuff. I don't want my mom to be deported because we have good times," said 9-year-old Nayeli Chagoya.
Families from Clearwater filled five buses before dawn to head to Tallahassee.
"This law is going to legalize racial profiling," said organizer Juan Pablo Chavez.

"He says if he leaves, who is going to take care of my family?" his attorney Myra Calo said.
Sounds like a personal problem to me.I can say the same thing if I get laid off who is going to take care of my family?" His wife can get a job. Using kids again ? Illegals make out like they are the only people on earth who can be separated from their parents. Hispanics now Florida's largest minority group, I think you have to be a different race for this racial profiling to apply.
Yeah, but ya ain’t AMERICANS!
“rallies and held prayer vigils”
I wonder who they pray to. When people in ancient Canaan prayed to the ugly god “Baal”, they thought they were praying to the real God. Baal means “lord”.
“Stop Racism. We Are All Human.”
So are murderers, rapists and pedophiles. What nonsense.
Commies Go Home!
Bill Clinton signed into law that children of illegals were to return to the country of their origin with their parents as far as I know that has never been revised or removed.
Have friggin’ MEXICO pick up the tab, not us.
Call Caderon, Jesus or the Cartels, get you ass back down to Taco Town.
Ping!
Do you support Arizona-style immigration laws in Florida?
77% answered yes
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!! These illegal immigrant sob stories fall flat in the face of OIR country’s economical situation. What are these commies doing, warming up for May Day?
Doesn’t sound like immigration bills.
Sounds like illegal alien bills.
When did it become standard practice for illegals to be the only folks who don’t have to identify themselves?
Let them try that crap in Mexico and see where it gets them. Oh yeah—they can do it here and get all the government benefits they want.
The separation IS only because the parents abandon their children here. There is nothing stpping them from taking their children with them to where the children would’ve been born anyway to.
