BIRMINGHAM, Ala. An emergency official says 10 more storm-related deaths have been confirmed in an Alabama county, bringing the regional death toll to 64.
Mark Kelley of the Jefferson County EMA is reporting a total of 11 deaths, up from a single death disclosed there earlier in the day.
Elsewhere in Alabama, severe weather has claimed 39 lives, including 15 in the hard-hit college town of Tuscaloosa.
Also on Wednesday, storms killed 11 in Mississippi, two in Georgia and one in Tennessee.

A hotel collapsed in Rome, Georgia, and many other occupied buildings were flattened.
There will be many grim discoveries when daylight dawns in the South.
That is a tragedy, It must be a record for deaths from a tornado.

Bro is holed up in a hotel room in Columbus, MS on business. Told my mom that his part of the town, anyway, is without power. His home is in AL and he’s worried about his house even though I don’t think his town was one of the ones that have been hit.
Oh, I'm sure he's deeply concerned about the citizens of the South. He will probably lose sleep tonight--tossing and turning.
Obama is so worried about the deaths that he is having a $35,000 per plate re-election fund raiser in NYC tonight with hedgefunders, the third one this month.

Power started coming back on in most parts of Columbus at about 8:30. Hats off to the folks from TVA. Their estimates were that it would be “at least” tomorrow before we started getting power.
It is just unbelievable how these storms bounced all around Columbus today. Just a little north of us they are saying that 80% of the town of Smithville was destroyed. The tornado that hit Tuscaloosa AL is being reported as being a mile wide and an F5.

The Tri-State Tornado of March 18, 1925 killed 695 people in Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana. The outbreak it occurred with was also the deadliest known tornado outbreak, with a combined death toll of 747 across the Mississippi River Valley.
A tornado killed 625 people on March 18, 1925. These storms are terrible, but they are no match for the deaths that occurred before we had good prediction and early warning.

My house was straddled. A wall cloud reported by trained spotters about a mile south, and lots of damage to the north, but barely even any rain at my house.
