How deeply has DHS been involved with 'Project Gunwalker'?
St. Louis Gun Rights Examiner ^ | 27 April, 2011 | Kurt Hofmann

"Project Gunwalker," the growing scandal in which the Burea of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) deliberately allowed thousands of firearms to be "walked" across the U.S./Mexican border by known gun traffickers, was almost certainly primarily the work of the Department of Justice. The DoJ is the parent department of the BATFE, and DoJ's fingerprints are all over this travesty. Still, this is too big for even the DoJ to have done completely on its own. Sipsey Street Irregular Mike Vanderboegh has been digging deeply into what looks like an administration-wide operation to create the mythical "iron river" of guns from the U.S. commercial market going to Mexico, to match the narrative we've been fed for the last two years.

One agency that would have to be brought into such an operation on some level is the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), as parent agency of Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (which is in turn the Border Patrol's parent agency), etc. Indeed, we have already talked about some of DHS's involvement. From a March 21 CBS News story:

But ATF wasn't working alone on the case known as "Fast and Furious." Documents show ATF had conference calls with "DHS" (Homeland Security). "USMS" (U.S. Marshals) and DEA. An "ICE," or Customs agent, was on ATF's Fast and Furious team. They were advised by an "AUSA," or Assistant U.S. Attorney under the Justice Department.

With an ICE agent actually on the "Fast and Furious" team, and DHS in on the conference calls, that agency can hardly claim not to have been involved with the operation to help get guns to known killers who operate across our border--"secuirng the homeland," indeed.

And now CBS has more bad news for DHS officials hoping not to get caught

After seeing the number of guns the ATF allowed to cross the border (2500), I believe there is a bigger conspiracy here than I at first thought. I believe the ATF actually wanted these guns to be used in crimes and then traced back to the US to promote their anti-gun agenda. They just didn’t think far enough ahead to realize they would be used against THEM.

It is sad that it took the death of US Border Agent Terry to bring this program to light.

This would not have happened if the deaths remained confined to US citizens.

Not to mention the hundreds of Mexican citizens who were probably killed as the result of this illegal conspiracy. Apparently the Mexican govenment wasn’t informed or involved in this, which would have given them some control. I’m surprised they haven’t made more of a stink about this.

They were advised by an "AUSA," or Assistant U.S. Attorney under the Justice Department.

If there is proof of this then Holder can no longer plead ignorance. It's more than a bit fishy that Obama, Clinton, and Holder were spreading the "American guns in Mexico" meme when operation gunwalker was just starting. It's stretches credulity to the breaking point.

It is now obvious that the gunwalker project was initiated by the highest levels in government for the express purpose of lending credence to arguments to restrict the 2nd amendment. At an absolute minimum it's a felony. In reality it's treason.

The Mexican gov't is filing lawsuits against US firearm manufacturers.

I believe Mexico is complicit in the Gun Walker scandal as Calderon stood by and supported Obama's claim that 90% of all firearms traced in Mexico originated from the US.

Gunrunner was a pilot program set up in 2005 as project under ATF

Under the Obama administration, ATF reaped another $21.9 million to expand Project Gunrunner (nearly half from the stimulus boondoggle), and the White House has requested almost $12 million more in fiscal year 2011 appropriations for the program

ATF'S PROJECT GUNRUNNER

Can this President do any more to hurt this country?

The corruption at the top of the ATF is bigger than Project Gunrunner.

Proof the Pres. and Holder were informed by the U.S. Office Of Special Counsel is located in OIG/OSC File Number D1-07-0367 (it’s public info):

Quote on page (many others on the site, enjoy reading)

I have spoken to dozens of mid-level and senior managers over the last two years. In private, they agree. ASACs and SACs stating to me that the Bureau is out of control and something needs to happen before we are abolished. Anyone want to guess what their answers are to me when I ask, “What are you going to do about it”?????? Look its not my job, I didn’t break it I am not responsible for fixing it. I’m only responsible for my little end of the ATF world. That’s why we are where we are.

STEP UP, STAND UP, AND PUT AN END TO THE INSANITY THAT HAS BECOME THE 5TH FLOOR.SHOW THAT YOU DESERVE THOSE BIG SALARIES AND TITLES. Since most of your titles end with “In-Charge”, act like it.

now we see where the constant droning amongst every level of leo really ends up...not my fault, but gotta protect 'the job'...

a handful of morality in this sea of corruption couldve kept this from happening in the first place...

The Department of Homeland Security was involved in Project Gunrunner. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, who are a part of DHS had a very similar internal program called Project Armas Cruzadas. The goals and methods of this project were very similar to Project Gunrunner. Interestingly, references to Project Armas Cruzadas have been removed from the ICE website.

ICE involvement can be proven by their own press releases. This one is on Operation Too Hot To Handle in Phoenix: http://www.ice.gov/news/releases/1102/110217phoenix.htm
