TRIPOLI, Libya — Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi survived a NATO missile strike Saturday that killed his youngest son and three grandchildren and wounded friends and relatives, Libya's spokesman said.

Gadhafi and his wife were in the Tripoli house of son Saif al-Arab Gadhafi, 29, when it was hit by at least one missile fired by a NATO warplane, according to Libyan spokesman Moussa Ibrahim.

Libyan officials took journalists to the one-story house in a wealthy residential neighborhood. Some areas of the roof were caved in, leaving strings of reinforcing steel hanging down among chunks of concrete.

A picture taken during a guided government tour shows damage that the Libyan government said was caused by a coalition air strike at the Tripoli house of Saif Al-Arab Gadhafi, youngest son of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi.

His son was/is 29. Plenty old enough to have joined in the manly pastime of killing infidels. As for the kids, it is horrible--if it happened. We have only their word. These are the same kinds of people who routinely hide behind civilians, plan atrocities like the Lockerbie bombing in which many children and grandchildren died. These are the people who welcomed home the supposedly dieing Lockerbie mastermind with celebrations.

Still and all, we need to quit allowing mission creep in the Libya situation.

I thought about it, and checked on a reference. I was wrong. Most of Libya’s futures contracts are with communist China.

I was told there was some sort of bidding war between Italy, Turkey, and China, and China won. Five years from now China will be getting most of it.

Like I said. I got the frame screwed up.

"Resist not evil" was abandoned by the fourth century when Jesus' followers realized that pagan barbarians were destroying the thin fabric of civilization in which their faith flouished.

+Augustine of Hippo (Egypt) formulated the first "Just War" principle when the ancestors of Khadafi were advancing: War is just if it preserves the peace.

One claims moral superiority when one is overwhelmingly strong. I'm an American and I'm ok with going medieval on muzzies during this sad part of our grand and glorious history.

A rollback to 1000 AD rules is ok with me on rules of warfare. One side fights that way anyway. It's a dumb and dead gentleman that insists on Queensbury rules when the chap on the other side is playing by barbarian rules.

To be fair, we need to level the playing field. You kill our families, we kill yours.

It's a war. I don't particularly think it's a good idea now, but it's all about breaking things and killing people. Our side needs to be the best at that so that get our politcal goals.

Otherwise, we need to go home and stay on the porch. Run with the big dogs, you ARE going to get hurt.

I can only speak for the way I feel and I surely don’t feel proud. What difference does it make who commits the murder of children and civilians? If Obama’s children were killed because the terrorists have something against him, would it be somehow worse than this? The “tit for tat” thing seldom ends with one death.

I can only hope the enemies this has made for Obama and Nato have better aim than this. What would you do? We now owe Qadafi the same restitution we demanded of him.

His son was/is 29. Plenty old enough to have joined in the manly pastime of killing infidels.

He was 4 years old when Berlin discotheque bombing happened, and 6 years old on the day of Lockerbie. Libya didn't do much of terrorism after that (in part because Gaddafi's interests changed.)

So unless each and every 29 years old Arab shall be exterminated on sight, we should presume that the man was innocent - until proven otherwise.

...”by whatever means” is in the UN statement I believe. Further Gaddafi put his whole family in danger by waring against his own people....who would take him out if they could get to him. The death of any of his families members is on his hands alone.

Some think N.Koreans starving is the US fault as well...(Carter dumbell)...forgetting that Kimbo kicked out everybody. It’s Kim’s fault entirely. Same with the death of these children....no matter who fired the missle. It’s all on Gaddafi’s hands.

You are correct, one should never be happy about children dying or war, ever.

But if war it is, children will die and get hurt and displaced and lose parents.

That is what war is. Breaking things and killing people.

So, war should be entered into with great throught, prayer, and questions.

But when the flag goes up, stuff is GOING to get broken. And people killed.

I don't believe this war is a just war. Regan retaliated for Lockerbie. Slap for slap, now it should be over.

But the guy in the White House didn't ask me, and we're off to war again. We need to fight it like a war. That is, we need to break lots of stuff, and kill people. Including children (but not targeting children).

Sorry for the hijack....

" ...at a time when America is borrowing from the Middle East at interest rates of three percent, why did the Fed extend $35 billion in (TALF) loans to the Arab Banking Corporation of Bahrain at interest rates as low as one quarter of one point?

Even more disturbing, the major stakeholder in the Bahrain bank is none other than the Central Bank of Libya, which owns 59 percent of the operation. In fact, the Bahrain bank just received a special exemption from the U.S. Treasury to prevent its assets from being frozen in accord with economic sanctions. That's right: Muammar Qaddafi received more than 70 loans from the Federal Reserve'...

There are two "Just War doctrines".

The most recent (and better known) was formulated by Aquinas as nation-states were coming into being. Hence the emphasis on diplomacy ("last resort") and proportionality.

The older, simpler, and least known doctrine is the one by +Augustine.

Ever since September 11, 2001, I have believed that our times more closely resemble those of +Augustine than those of Aquinas.

the moral superiority we Americans so readily and confidently claim.

Ih really since when have we been "superior" in anything on the International stage? Not since 2008 for certain. Also keep in mind that God had plenty to say about war...and leaders.....Pharoh lost his son as well...and we know who was responsible for that. God will and does raise up leaders and he will also take them down...not uncommon children are affected....adults forget their choices will always affect their family.

What goes around, comes around.

If he doesn’t want to get burned, he shouldn’t be playing with fire.
