Posted on 05/01/2011 10:57:13 AM PDT by kristinn
Donald Trump pushed back Sunday at President Barack Obama for making him the "focus of the evening" in his White House Correspondents' Dinner speech, and laced into Saturday Night Live comedian Seth Meyers as a "stutterer" whose delivery was lacking.
Trump's comments came in a quick phone-in to "Fox and Friends," a day after he sat almost stone-faced while the president and Meyers ripped him repeatedly, to belly laughs from the crowd. People at tables around him gaped at him watching for a reaction, and some of his tablemates wrote on Twitter that it was uncomfortable.
"Well, I really understood what I was getting into I didn't know that I'd be virtually the sole focus," Trump said. "I guess when you're leading in the polls that sort of thing tends to happen. But I was certainly in a certain way having a good time listening. I don't think the American people are having a good time with $5 gas. ... I was thinking to myself as they were doing this, you know, the American people are really suffering and we're all" having fun at a gala.
"I thought Seth Meyers his delivery frankly was not good," Trump added. He's a stutterer."

I'll continue to use reason.
Its not so much IQ. Although that is a factor in some cases. Has more to do with political philosophy. Some folks are just not principled conservatives and lack basic common sense. Moderates, liberals and malcontents are more receptive to candidates like Trump. Make that, clowns like Trump.
If I’d been at the WHCD last night, I’d have sat stone faced, too, without having to be Donald Trump and the focus of the attacks. It was just NOT funny.
The “comedian” DID have very poor delivery. Sometimes “comedians” fall flat, as the one last night did. His fawning over Obama reminded me of the girlie-man at some post-Inaugural event “oh, thank you, thank you, Mr. President for taking time from your busy day, blah blah blah.” Pathetic. Bring in the fainting couch.
Obama, on the other hand, was inexcusable. I can’t recall ever seeing a POTUS lashing out at an opponent in that setting. Mr. Thin Skin showed how badly Trump got to him, and maybe that’s a good thing. But he has brought not the first iota of class or dignity to the Office he holds, only is empty suit.
Interesting the only two repeated targets were Trump and Biden. No one dare go after Obama, and he doesn’t have enough sense of humor to make fun of himself.
I'm responding to those who imply he's our answer to Obama. He's not.
Hey mewykwistmas: Obama PWND himself!
A lot of his so called “jokes” didn’t elicit any laughter at all. Did you see the idiotic short film Obama showed? It went over like a lead balloon. His jokes fell flat, and his derisive humor towards Trump was mean spirited.
He's a racist, and about as funny as F5 tornado.
Seems fair. I’ll stick with using democrats’ Saul Alinsky tactics as an almost perfect contrary indicator:
If dems hate someone, they’re probably good.
I found some of Myers “jokes” (that weren’t one tenth as funny as some things Donald has said ABOUT HIMSELF in the past), on youtube.
Trump was either pissed or just not amused.
Mel, I ain’t that desperate......yet......
Yep. We are fed up with both major parties, which are actually wings of the same party. The budget cut scam that went from $100 billion to $352 million is just an example of how both parties have little regard for the people who put them in office. We are in this current mess because of a failure of leadership that has been going on for decades.
Palin made a fool of herself during the primaries, and quit her governorship halfway without a good reason.
I think she’s learned some lessons since then. When she’s not reciting a speech her FOUR speechwriters compose for her, she’s much better-spoken now, and has done some homework.
The Palin cult, though, has passed and she’s damaged goods. No chance of her beating the Black Messiah. The guy with the bad hair is whooping Obama’s hinder publically, and that’s worth a laugh or two, at the least.
The jokes were weak.
Watch the Comedy Central roast of Trump. Now THOSE were funny (except the “Situation”). Trump can laugh at himself, but I think he found this to just be ridiculously stupid and not clever enough to be worthy of his respect.
It’d probably be a good to distinguish between criticism is well earned and alinsky style politically motivated ridicule. IMHO.
I think many are questioning Trumps “material” as Presidential. But our world is very different than we have known it in the past elections. It’s a full fledged tinder box economically and as much we have three wars...plus the Mexican border war.
As a politician I don’t think many want to take him on because he is not “groomed politically” and they would have no idea how he might respond other than in their face.
I don’t want to see Trump let any grass grow under his feet when each episode in the media makes issue of what he says or doesn’t say...he needs to have his response and then just keep moving on from each episode...and ignore the past steps taken..right or wrong...he needs to keep moving forward to the next encounter....So far he is doing just hat. Unfortunately palin got too involved in what the media was saying...but she is much better at it now.
If he could polish up his message, throw in some real ideas on reducing size of government, and effectively answer to his past, he’d be unbeatable.
Did you accidentally log on the wrong forum?
Are you kidding me? How very liberal talking points of you. Palin is a rising powerhouse.
He was funny when he first started out, but it ended when he tried to be yet another liberal mouthpiece.
Presidential timber like Clinton, Bush 43, and Obama? I think we have been getting the splinters. Who has the presidential timber to run in 2012?
Can we face the fact that the leadership of the GOP are for the most part liberals?
They have done nothing to undo the broad scope of liberalism, and progressivism. In many ways they do whatever they can to help it move forward. For example. Bush’s Medicare Part D plan and Romney’s Romenycare paved the way for Obamacare.
Maybe the GOP leaders need a wake up call, and they need some Alinsky tactics targeting them once in a while.
“he can say or do whatever he wants as just a pissed off American”
He is not pissed off, he is happy. Many I_D_I_O_T_S are following him and he’s laughing all the way to the bank. For now anyway, eventually he will lose business by becoming a bigger joke.
Interesting observation and you are hardly alone in that from those I've spoken with. He definately has the attention...but is he truly committed? All are waiting to here just where he stands. He just got a taste of the attacks they will be coming at him with....and these willl grow louder and stronger in the months ahead...can he withstand? Remains to be seen but he is going to need more help than just saying what's on his mind.
Perhaps he’s playing the role of human target. He’s clearing a path so the other candidates can march to victory.
He can’t, however, force them to don their boots and march up that path.
Reacting, instead of acting. That is a very great weakness in a POTUS.
If I was Trump, I would run a persistent active investigation against Obama 24/7/365 looking into his past.
Funny, but I never heard this level of vitriol while the Dems had people like Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Mike Gravel, and Dennis Kucinich running. And then we had charlatans like John Edwards who actually was the VP nominee in 2004.
reminds me of this song, but south Chicago has nothing on Trumps dog eat dog world..
The thing about Trumps run, or non-run, is that, unlike any other candidate, what Freepers think or post will have exactly zero effect on the outcome.
Like him or hate him, he has the skill, conections, and more than enough money to take the primaries and the Presidentcy.
A lot of people call him a RINO, OK, he’s a RINO with the following very popular stated positions:
Military on the Mexican border
Wants ObamaCare repealed
Wants to take the economic fight to the Chinese
Birth Certificate issue
Lower tax rates
Against gun control
Against raising the debt ceiling
Fill administration positions with competent people not political appointees.
Will undo Obama World Apology Tour
Wants the rest of the world to fear us
No 911 Mosque, too insensitive
Jobs, Jobs, Jobs
Never held elected office
Knows better than to introduce a Win The Future (WTF) slogan
And, my favorite in-your-face,
Pi$$es off Karl Rove
Exactly Kabar...he is completley unpredictable...not groomed by the media nor the politicians. And he is not afraid of them. However the softer side of our republic will have difficulty with him, for they do not understand how the world has changed and the dire straights we are in, so he has to find a level of relating to them ...and I think that is where the people come in and speak up as well.
If he runs this will be an interesting race to say the least...and formidable as well. The Mafia thugs against the Trump Casino Thugs. Reminds me of the roaring twenties era....but a fight there will be.
However, this is for real so we better be certain of who is on our side...not just wishful thinking....but certainty. Trump has time to deliver that...or not.
Go ahead & support who you like & I'll do the same.
We can answer to each other for the results when the jury comes back.
Trump is serving a very useful purpose at the moment. He is showing how attacking obama can excite people. We have to bring down obama like a pack of wolves brings down a caribou. The first wolf chases awhile, past where the next fresh wolf is waiting, then he chases awhile, etc., until the caribou gives out.
There isn’t anybody else hammering obama like he needs to be hammered. At this point a year and a half before the election I don’t care about evaluating Trump as a candidate (or anybody else for that matter). There’s plenty of time for that. What needs to happen now is for obama to be chased hard and nobody else is doing it.
“...like attacking the Supreme Court justices at the first SOTUS...”
And like inviting Paul Ryan to sit in the front row of BO’s budget speech and then eviscerating Ryan’s budget plan to his face. He is a vile snake that the GOP should never, ever trust after these numerous examples of his kicks below the belt.
“The first wolf chases awhile, past where the next fresh wolf is waiting, then he chases awhile, etc., until the caribou gives out.”
Problem is right now there is one wolf chasing the caribou, and every time the wolf stops for a moment - all the other wolves attack the first wolf.
Bull crap...only the "old" school voters would think in that vein. The world is not wrapped up in a pretty little ribbon to be handed to the first conservative "nice guy" politician who thinks fighting fair is the way to go. It's not the reality of the world we live in now.
Movers and shakers are what we need now to kick up the dust and THEN when that job is done bring in the "softer-side" of conservatism....with three wars and Mexico warzone pulling us down...not to mention cleaning out the infiltration of our government from the Marxits and Islamic leadership.....we need a warrior in the front to bring it to a desired end...no soft-spoken politician is going to get us there. The enemy is IN the rank and file!
Bringing up the constitution is not on the table in a war zone...nobody is paying attention to that aside from the full knowledge it's NOT being paid attention to. So we must fight them on their turf and bring them out and down...then we can re-establish the foundation of this great nation, which is currently being shredded and un-oppposed.
I kept waiting for Obama’s attempt at humor to end but I realized it ain’t gonna end until Michelle sings.
Palin is finished. Stop reacting with emotion (sure sign of a cultist, by the way) and think about it. Just because she reads speeches (written by someone else) that you might agree with doesn’t make her a good Presidential candidate. (And I don’t necessarily disagree with what she says when she’s not reading a teleprompter.)
Against the Black Messiah, she has no chance, nor do most of the mainstream Republican offerings. (I back Pence, though he’s probably serving the country better in Congress.)
The party needs someone the entire nation will take seriously. Saying things like “When Putin raises his head above our airspace” won’t do.
Look up “projection” and “cognitive dissonance,” and you’ll understand better.
Thanks for that input.
And, actually, I’ve got work to do today, and my head hurts. Arguing with emotionalists just isn’t on my agenda.
Enjoy your Palinismus, as my Cuban wife would say...
Why do so many "conservatives" run lemming-like after a big mouthed rich guy? It's pathetic, I tell ya. (cf: Carl Paladino.)
But many of us do NOT believe Trump is serious about being president and are worried that as he continues to hold himself up as a GOP candidate for president, with his renown skills as a showman, he will suck all of the oxygen from the room making it impossible for any serious candidate to get their message out.
Which, coincidentally, along with a third party challenge, are the ONLY hopes Obama has for re-election.
Many others of us remember how well celebrity candidates have worked out historically - ie, not well.
Its really a pretty rational reaction for those who've been following politics for awhile.
The fact that Trump is willing to call Obama on the carpet and slug it with him has plenty of value all by itself. I wish Boehner and McConnell would show just 10% of the willingness ot oppose the 'bamster that Trump has demonstrated.
OK, He’s not coming alonne, but how many others will aka bring???
I see Trump as rather, a powerful political booster rocket.
Could be he’s actually got what’s needed to achieve orbit, but at very least he could carry someone else to escape velocity.
Part of me wonders if that might be Sarah Palin.
Yes, and also a mass education of the public of the reality this world and nations is in..not as the Obamonites are protraying. For crying out loud there are Islamic thugs and Marxists in this administration and deeply imbedded!
It will take an individual unafraid to clean house to get them out...yesturday...and little time to do that. It will take a mover and shaker that has the mind and fortitude to accomplish that task.Where he lacks we can only pray that like Bush, he can get a powerhouse around him to advise and lead the way.
I have not determined my vote yet...but I am tweeking how I vote as the political and economic conditions are as grave as they are...as well as the push by the International Community to unite us with their their World Wide Agenda and threatens our sovernity at every turn.
No soft tongued politician can go up against this onslaught....that time has passed and proven a failure, which is why we are at where we are at. I want to be a free and independant nation again...might be wishful thinking but I desire that just the same. Intradependance is one thing...taking us over is quite another!
Mewy, it just struck me:
Did The Donald ever fire you? Kinda sounds like it.
The similarity here is two individuals, who despite having critics, had the backbone to attack what they viewed as a wrong. You may not like either one or even like their motives, but unless we're going to concede the Country to Team Obama in 2012, the candidates (supposedly) opposing Obama had better take notice. Another Politically Correct, intimidated by the Media, Republican nominee is another election loser and more importantly, a loser for America.
“Many others of us remember how well celebrity candidates have worked out historically - ie, not well.”
Oh, you mean like Ronald Reagan?
Skeeter...the dust needs to fly for a time I think. You note that those who have claimed they are running are relatively quite as Trump stirs the pot. They also are letting him run at Obama and loving it. But to what end is on everybodys mind.
I;m not so sure “celebrity” is appropriate for Trump...though he had become such. He was a businessman first...and played his hand with the celebrity crowd, as well as the political crowd, to favor those businesses and it has worked for him.
But now he has to come down to one side or another on the issues of our nation....and that with centainty. This is not just a high risk game....it IS the life or death of our nation as soverign over it’s own affairs.
I agree. Or especially, out of a terrified crumbling narcissism.
